About Mereside - HQ Bar & Restaurant
Thirty-eight rooms and a beach on the doorstep are the two facts that define Mereside - HQ Bar & Restaurant, a guest house at 1 Empire Terrace in Douglas, Isle of Man, with Douglas Central Beach right outside. It's a straightforward base for exploring the town without needing a car for the essentials, though free on-site parking is provided for anyone who does drive over.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, with family and accessible options available and lift access throughout the building. Guests get free WiFi, drinks available in the room, and breakfast served on site, while the in-house HQ Bar & Restaurant covers meals through the day, including a kids' menu, with outdoor seating for warmer weather. Laundry service and luggage storage are on hand for longer stays, and meeting rooms make it workable for those visiting on business too.
Beyond the front door, Douglas offers plenty to fill the time: golf, fishing and watersports nearby, along with cycling and walking routes, plus a scattering of pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach. Valet parking is available for those who'd rather not manage their own car.

David's review is completely unfair and fails to mention some key facts. I was there. There ARE beers on tap. The "missing waitress" was also the barmaid/server/waitress and at that point, cleaner. She was cleaning the lines whilst also taking orders, serving food and serving a soon to be drunk Irish chap (me). It was explained several times that bottled beer was available and how long before the pumps would be back up and pouring. Unlike David I had patience and also a lovely pint of Guinness after. That young woman worked her legs off and kept her cool when it got difficult. Some people just can't be pleased I guess. Update: Lovely, well prepared food. Great staff and a cracking pint. Cheers David!

Had a fantastic family dinner last night. Loved the small bites menu, stuffed squid, scotch egg and crispy belly pork, all tasty. Good price too for 6 and a half of us. Would highly recommend and will be back!
