About Trevelyan Hotel

Douglas's promenade is the natural base for exploring the Isle of Man's capital, within reach of Douglas Central Beach, the harbour and the island's heritage attractions, and the Trevelyan Hotel occupies a spot right on Queens Promenade. With 68 rooms across five floors, it's a sizeable B&B suited to families and groups alike, with family rooms and en-suite bathrooms throughout, plus a lift for easy access.

Guests get breakfast included, free WiFi, and the option of drinks brought to the room, while downstairs there's a bar, a games room and a garden with outdoor seating for warmer days. Sea views are a feature of the property, and 24 hour reception means arrivals and requests are covered at any time. There's no parking on site, so those arriving by car should plan accordingly.

⚠️ WARNING: Systemic Abusive Staff & Substandard Conditions Overall Assessment: ⭐☆☆☆☆ (1/5 Stars) A review of multiple traveler accounts reveals that this property presents a severe risk to paying guests. While the seafront location is noted, the operational practices make it a place to avoid at all costs. Critical Issues to Note Before Booking: Hostile & Abusive Management: Multiple guests report being shouted at, ignored, or treated with extreme arrogance by the staff. Shockingly, this includes documented instances of foul language and discriminatory remarks directed at guests with physical disabilities. Financial Exploitation: There are consistent reports of the hotel refusing to honor prepaid booking details upon arrival, demanding unexpected hidden fees (e.g., £60 on the spot), and completely refusing refunds when guests choose to leave. Broken Infrastructure: The elevator/lift is consistently non-functional, which staff reportedly conceal until payment is processed. Rooms are frequently described as small, damp, emitting an unpleasant odor, and plagued by failing electricity, lack of hot water, and no internet. Complete Lack of Privacy: Guest reviews note that staff members have entered occupied rooms without knocking. Recommendation: Do not stay here. Travelers requiring a comfortable, safe environment with basic courtesy should seek alternative accommodations on the promenade. 👥 Google Maps Account Names Reference When documenting these instances, the specific Google Maps posting accounts to reference from the evidence files are: W G (1000101248.jpg / 1000101249.jpg) Mikal Johnsen (Local Guide — 1000101253.jpg) daniel Meah (Local Guide — 1000101256.jpg) maria bellika (1000101259.jpg) Dima Tropanets (1000101262.jpg) laura kelly (Local Guide — 1000101265.jpg)

🔴 Warning: Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had! I booked this hotel in advance and paid the full amount (£186). When I arrived, I politely asked to change my room because the one I was given was very small, old, and dirty. Despite my calm and respectful approach, the manager kept shouting at me repeatedly. Even though I was the paying guest, I found myself having to calm her down instead of her treating me with basic courtesy. No matter if I was wrong or right, I expected to be treated with wisdom and respect, not rudeness. They acted with arrogance and no tact whatsoever—no polite conversation or dialogue. No solution was offered. I even went to the police, but unfortunately, the police were unhelpful—probably the worst part of this experience. On top of everything, my money was never refunded. After being kicked out, I managed to find a hostel for one night, then booked a ferry back to Liverpool and left the island immediately. I came to this island hoping for a wonderful time, especially since it was my birthday and I wanted to relax and enjoy a great week. But they didn’t care at all about my feelings or well-being. These people have no heart, no humanity. I loved the island’s natural beauty, but the people running this place are not hospitable at all. Because of this experience, I will never return, and I warn others to be cautious. This hotel is run by a rude, arrogant family who treat guests with obvious discrimination and disrespect. I felt like I was dealing with a gang, not a professional establishment. ❗ I absolutely do NOT recommend staying here—unless you want to be treated without dignity, kicked out after payment, and denied the most basic hospitality rights. Honestly, this family is not fit to run a hotel or to deal with guests. They would be better suited to working in a stable cleaning horse stalls and taking care of animals than managing any place that welcomes people. There are many other hotels on the island that deserve your trust. But this place is a shame on tourism.

Unprofessional, hostile staff and a deeply unsettling experience We booked and prepaid a room through Hotels.com for 4 adults. Upon arrival, we were left waiting in the lobby without being greeted, fair enough, sometimes things are busy. But when someone finally showed up, she immediately told us, rather bluntly, that our reservation was for “2 adults and 2 children” (which it absolutely was not). Without offering any help or clarification, she simply walked away. Then came another staff member, this time with a hostile and accusatory tone, making it crystal clear that we were not welcome unless we paid an additional £60 on the spot. Again, she vanished behind a locked door, leaving us to stew in confusion for 20-30 minutes. No apology. No explanation. While waiting, we noticed the lobby walls were plastered with rules and threats: guests can be removed without explanation, fines for this and that, elevator works limited hours, reception closed during breakfast(!)… The whole place had the feel of a low-budget authoritarian hostel, not a welcoming hotel. We decided this place was not worth our time or money and left. We booked a new hotel, with polite staff, clean facilities, and no paranoia-inducing rule posters. This hotel was not clean, not friendly, not professional, and absolutely not recommended to anyone, except maybe my worst enemies. There were many ways the staff could have handled this situation. Instead, they chose rudeness, avoidance, and zero accountability. Avoid at all costs.
