Clauchan Farm - The Bothy
Dumfries and Galloway
View on Google MapsPhoto: Clauchan Holiday Cottages
The Girthon Valley, south of Castle Douglas, rolls between moorland and the Solway's golden beaches. Clauchan Farm sits on working land here, a cluster of holiday properties converted from farm buildings. The Bothy is one of them—a semi-detached cottage where the owners live next door, close enough to help if needed but far enough for proper privacy. Gatehouse of Fleet, with its pubs and restaurants, is just a couple of miles away.
Inside, you get a ground-floor open plan with kitchen, dining and living space, plus a first-floor bedroom with a double bed. The bathroom has a bath and shower. There's a 32" Smart TV in both the living room and bedroom if you want it; otherwise the space is quiet and straightforward. Electricity, heating, bed linen and towels are all included, and Wi-Fi works throughout. You have an enclosed courtyard with garden furniture and private parking for one car; bikes can be stored on site.
The location suits people after woodland walks, coastal paths or long cycle routes—the 7Stanes trails are nearby—and families wanting to explore Galloway's attractions without fighting traffic. A beach is a mile and a half away. The cottage doesn't allow smoking.

From the moment we arrived we were relaxed. Everything about the barn was perfect. Spotlessly clean, I need to know what they wash their towels with? So fresh and soft. Peaceful and quiet, just birds going about their business. Area was perfect for us, everything we wanted to visit was within 30mins drive, lots to see and do. We completed a few walks around gatehouse of fleet, did the raiders road drive, otter pools are stunning. In the evening we relaxed in the spacious, clean hot tub, total privacy. Hosts were really friendly and an absolute font of knowledge for the area. We will definitely be coming again soon. Alison and Darren.

Great bothy, very well kitted out, very clean and cosy and in a fantastic position to explore the area. Love the addition of the peaceful summerhouse out back. Wonderful peace, and dark skies. Lovely, helpful and friendly owners next door. We enjoyed our stay from start to finish and in fact are moving back to this part of Scotland to live. That's how impressed we were!

What a lovely setting . We stayed in middle barn with our mini daxi puppy and the three of us had a fabulous weeks break . Lovely views from the hot tub and garden. Garden was well secure even for Poppy to run around . Got to meet the lovely down to earth owners and with credit to them the barn was made very welcoming . Will be back . Thank you
