The Cottage
Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway draws walkers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts to its forested hills and quiet valley routes. The Cottage sits at the edge of Glenmidge hamlet, a sympathetically converted 18th-century stone building where a working waterwheel and burn run through the grounds. Red kites, buzzards, roe deer, otters and badgers frequent the area; a shared wildlife garden with bird hide offers a chance to spot them. Everything is on the ground floor: a living space with TV and dining area, a kitchen equipped for self-catering, a double bedroom and an ensuite with shower. The small enclosed courtyard garden has seating and a BBQ.
This is a base for cyclists in particular—7stanes trails start from the doorstep, and the cottage lies on the Kirkpatrick Macmillan Cycle Trail. Walking and running routes through the surrounding forest are immediate; flatter valley roads and hill paths mean there is something for different abilities. Within a few miles are the ruins of 15th-century Lag Tower and Drumlanrig Castle, a 17th-century stately home with 120 rooms now open to the public. One dog stays free; bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are included, and parking for two cars is on site.

What guests say
Very cosy little cottage, nice and warm, if you're into cycling, walking etc, or just appreciate the quiet then this place is perfect for 2 people, the people that own the cottage live behind it, very nice people and make you feel welcome, would definitely recommend this place for a break, they also take dogs and the place is nestled between hills and trees with loads of dog walking areas.
