Portpatrick's harbour front sits only a stone's throw away, where fishing trips and sightseeing cruises depart regularly. The seafront pubs line the water's edge, and the village itself fills with activity throughout the year. Coastal walks pass Dunskey Castle's ruins and lead through secluded bays, while the Southern Upland Way begins from the village for those who want to venture further. On clear nights the Irish coast becomes visible across the water.
The Old Toll House occupies a bow-ended building that once collected tolls in the 19th century, positioned prominently as the road slopes down towards the water. Ground floor rooms include a fully equipped kitchen with dining space, a shower room, and a bedroom with a king-size bed curved to fit the cottage's distinctive walls. Upstairs, the living room spreads across two elevations with windows framing glimpses of the sea, a wood-burning stove, and comfortable seating. Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are provided; heating and the initial supply of wood for the stove are included, with further fuel available locally. The cottage accommodates two guests and welcomes one pet. No smoking inside.
