Portpatrick sits on the Dumfries and Galloway coast with enough going on year-round to keep visitors occupied—the harbour fills with fishing boats, cliff paths stretch in both directions past Dunskey Castle and Killantringan Lighthouse, and the village hosts everything from lifeboat weeks to farmers markets. Thistle Cottage puts you a short walk from all of it, a ground-floor end terrace where two guests have the whole place to themselves.
Inside, the layout is straightforward: a sitting room with Freesat television, a kitchen with electric oven and hob, dishwasher and all the basics for cooking, a bedroom with a king-size bed, and a shower room. A utility room contains washing and tumble-drying facilities. Heating, electricity, wi-fi and bed linen are covered; there is parking on site and a bike store. The back garden has seating and a sloping lawn. One dog is welcome. No smoking indoors.
The Southern Upland Way begins from the village, making this a natural base for long-distance walkers. The South West Coastal 300 touring route also passes through, linking Portpatrick to the wider region's landscape. The harbour is moments away on foot, as are several pubs and restaurants with views across the water.
