About The Dundonald Guesthouse and Cottage
The Dundonald Guesthouse and Cottage occupies a restored circa-1850 coach house inn in Culross, the remarkably preserved seventeenth-century royal burgh around six miles west of Dunfermline. The building has welcomed guests for some 170 years, and its setting among Culross's cobbled streets and ochre-harled houses gives it a sense of place unmatched by anything in Dunfermline itself.
Three individually styled guest rooms are available, named Serfs, Kentigerns and Teneu, each combining vintage furnishings with modern comforts, and breakfasts feature locally sourced ingredients delivered to the room or served with the stay. An adjoining seventeenth-century building has been converted into a self-contained cottage sleeping up to six, with its own private terrace, for those wanting more space or a longer stay.
The Sunday Times named the property among its 100 Best British Hotels in 2021, recognition that reflects its refined interiors and warm, personal hospitality. It suits visitors keen to base themselves somewhere quieter and more atmospheric than the town centre, while still being a short drive from Dunfermline's abbey, shops and station.

What guests say
Absolutely loved our one night stay in the garden room. Paul and Laura are great hosts, supported by able team. Quality of home and design is outstanding. Creative genius. Cannot recommend highly enough. Great G&T on arrival. Went to Red Lion for simple supper. Super breakfast, with the best smoked salmon. Absolute attention to detail and highest standard in every respect.

We traveled for 1 month around Ireland & Scotland and this place was quite possibly our best stay! Gorgeous attention to detail in the rooms - breaky was outstanding! Make sure to visit the cafe too, best coffee ☕️ Culross is a real step back in time, its a real treat as is The Dundonald!

This was our second time staying at The Dundonald. We absolutely love this guesthouse. The interior design is stunning and creates such a welcoming atmosphere. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and spotlessly clean. It’s clear that the hosts put a lot of heart into the details. We truly enjoyed our stay and are already looking forward to coming back again. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing stay at the Dundonald and honestly wished we had booked another night so we could spend more time exploring Fife and the East Neuk. We will definitely be back. Culross is a perfect place to stay, beautiful, peaceful and full of character. Paul, Laura and Adele made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived and were wonderful hosts throughout our stay. The whole place was spotlessly clean, with beautifully curated decoration and artwork that made it feel both special and very personal, almost like being welcomed into someone’s home in the best possible way. Breakfast with Wendy was also a lovely experience and a great way to start the day. We also visited The Mercat (run by Laura with Adele), which is super lovely and well worth stopping by. This was the best place we stayed on our trip to Scotland and genuinely one of the best places we’ve stayed anywhere. If you’re visiting Culross or exploring Fife, we couldn’t recommend staying here more highly. We can’t wait to come back.
