About The Coylet Inn
The Coylet Inn stands on the banks of Loch Eck, around eight miles inland from Dunoon in the Argyll Forest Park, and has been welcoming travellers on this route for close to four hundred years. It is a proper coaching inn rather than a country hotel, with a working bar, a restaurant built around Scottish produce, and just four themed double bedrooms, three of them looking out over the loch and one over the hillside behind.
Under its current owners since 2020, the inn has built a reputation for its whisky selection and its use of local Scottish ingredients, alongside a genuinely dog-friendly welcome that includes water bowls and treats for visiting pets. Paddleboards and kayaks can be hired directly from the inn for exploring Loch Eck, and the surrounding forest paths and hillsides, including routes towards Puck's Glen and Benmore Botanic Garden, are within easy reach by car.
Its inland, lochside setting makes the Coylet a distinctive alternative to Dunoon's seafront hotels, better suited to walkers, anglers and wildlife-watchers who want to be based among the hills rather than on the coast, with the town itself a straightforward twenty-minute drive away.

I had a beautiful day down at the Coylet Inn for a little kayak on the gorgeous Loch Eck. The Inn itself sits quietly among the most daydreamy, quintessential Scottish scenery looking onto the shore of one of the most spectacular lochs. The Inn is beautiful, and has such a warm welcoming feel. Sandra greeted me with such warmth and friendless that fits the cozy Scottish vibes. After my kayak, I had the joy of sitting in the bar and having lovely passing conversations with fellow guests and visitors. The staff are passionate about their abundance of native wildlife and have a live stream of their remote camera in the surrounding forests (find it on YouTube at Lockeckwildlifecam). They regularly see red squirrel, pine marten, all sorts of beautiful birds and other critters. This place is a must visit for any vacationer looking for a beautiful base from which to explore, or passing traveler looking for the ultimate pitstop with some loch activities if they desire. Had a lovely pub lunch here on Thursday. The new makeover looks brilliant and gives the old-fashioned bar a fresh feel while still keeping all its character. Great food, generous portions, friendly service, and a beautiful loch view to top it all off. Definitely worth a visit!

Just back from a couple of nights away at this brilliant establishment. The views from the front of the hotel are quite simply amazing. We stayed in the pod which was cozy and with everything you could possibly need for a few days away. The food was delicious, we enjoyed our meals in front of a roaring fire with views of the loch through the large bay window. This is a real place, no pretence, no gimmicks just a genuinely old inn, full of character with excellent service from the very attentive owners Sandra and Carl. Can't wait to go back........Thank you.

I can't understand why it's not bursting with customers every night. It must be one of the most beautiful and tranquil locations in the UK. The food is great, the staff lovely & kindly and the prices very reasonable. I assume it just lacks marketing. I eat here whenever I'm in the area and have done for several years now. It's just a short drive from Dunoon so come on people, support it, it's will worth the trip for lunch or dinner.
