Dragonfly Camping

We had such a fantastic stay here and would absolutely return when camping in Durham again. The campsite is excellent value for money, with lots of space in the main field as well as a lovely enclosed orchard where we camped, which felt really peaceful and safe for our dog. One of the highlights was the beautiful walk through a small woodland path leading to a large secluded field where we could let our border collie run absolutely ragged and she loved every minute of it! The whole site has a really relaxed, friendly atmosphere and musical jam sessions with the owners and other campers. The couple running the farm were genuinely lovely and couldn’t have been more welcoming or helpful throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble, and they even kindly spared us a few drinks when we unexpectedly ran out! Every camping pitch comes with a fire pit, and they sell firewood at very reasonable prices which included kindling and fire starters which allowed for enjoyable evenings by the fire. There’s also a brilliant local farm shop nearby with a butchers, bakery, café and even a fresh milk / milkshake dispenser. Other shops are only around 10–15 minutes away including superstores and Seaham beach is about a 20+ minute drive. We spent a lovely day there collecting sea glass together. Unfortunately, we accidentally left our sea glass behind at the campsite, but the owners very kindly went out to look for it and agreed to send it back to us because it held sentimental value for my girlfriend after such a lovely day collecting it together. That level of kindness and care really says everything about this place. Highly recommended campsite with wonderful hosts, good facilities and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere

A lovely campsite. We stayed here as we were walking the Durham Camino, and we camped for three nights in the wooded section. There's also a massive field for camping on too. The staff are really friendly, and pointed out a stile in the corner of the field that we could use for a walk from the campsite. There's a toilet and shower block, plus compost pit toilets at the other side of the campsite on the field. There's plenty of space on the field for tents and for children to run around, there's fire pits dotted around which can be used, and a load of horses in the surrounding fields too for anyone who likes animals! I would recommend this campsite for anyone who enjoys camping in a quiet place, but wants to be nearby to Durham centre too.

What a wonderful campsite!! Gorgeous location & amazing facilities, the owner was really helpful & kind! The beautiful entrance through woodland & gorgeous pitches in woodland with fire pits & seating, I’d be there every weekend if we lived more locally, hope to visit again if we are up this way again!! Thank you to the hosts for letting us come on a weekend when they were closed to pitch up bookings!! Thank you for such a treat staying here ❤️wish we could have stayed longer

Gorgeous quiet sheltered camping spots in the walnut orchard, with lots of space in the larger field if that's what you need. Friendly and informal - no demarcated pitches, priced by the person not by the tent, good for groups who like little individual tents rather than one big one. Facilities basic but perfectly adequate - toilets, showers, water, fire pits. Ground easy to put tent pegs into. Plenty of footpaths around and about for a stroll straight from the campsite; they may probably be a bit boggy in damper periods (the dictionary definition of "carr" is a clue.) Easy to get to Durham city and the coast. We will be back.
