Barningham Estate- 2 The Reading Room Cottages

County Durham

The Reading Room Cottages takes its name from a specific piece of local history: it once served the villagers of Barningham as a place to read the daily newspaper delivered to the estate. Set within the grounds of the historic Barningham Estate, this cottage sits in a conservation village between Richmond and Barnard Castle, surrounded by open countryside that edges into the Yorkshire Dales.

Two bedrooms and one bathroom make it suitable for three guests. Downstairs holds a living room with a Smart TV and a kitchen/dining space equipped for proper cooking—oven, hob, dishwasher, and all the usual appliances. Upstairs, one room has a kingsize bed and its own TV; the other is a single. The bathroom includes a bath with shower over it. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. One car can park on the private drive, with additional parking available free of charge. No smoking indoors.

One dog stays free. The cottage is yours alone, with shared grounds on the wider estate. Barningham village itself has a pub nearby serving local food, a bakery, a shop and a village hall. The location works well for walking and cycling into the Dales, and for exploring the Bronze Age heritage scattered across the moorland. Those interested can arrange fishing, shooting or stalking with the owners on request.
