Belle Vue - Belle Vue Cottage
County Durham
View on Google MapsEggleston is a small village on the edge of the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where walking trails cut through woodland and across open moorland. Belle Vue Cottage sits here with an enclosed lawned garden, a private parking space, and enough quiet to make a real retreat from busier parts of the region. The village itself has two pubs serving food, and Eggleston Hall Gardens—with its secret garden and Norman Church ruins—is within walking distance.
The cottage has one bedroom with a kingsize bed, one bathroom with a bath and shower, and a combined living and dining space overlooking the garden. The kitchen is equipped for cooking proper meals rather than heating ready-mades. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included. One well-behaved pet stays free. There is no smoking inside.
Nearby Barnard Castle, four miles away, has the Bowes Museum—a striking French-style building housing art and antiques. High Force, England's highest waterfall, lies a similar distance off. For anyone who wants to walk rather than drive, the North Pennines offer serious scope: trails through woodland, over ridges, past becks. This is genuinely remote country, and the cottage suits couples or solo travellers who want to be based somewhere small and still.
