The Weardale Way runs through the grounds of Heckberry Cottage, making it an obvious choice for walkers who want to step outside and onto established routes immediately. St John's Chapel is less than a mile away, a functioning village with two pubs, a tearoom and café. Numerous public footpaths cross the fields surrounding the cottage itself. For those without boots, Durham is within reach, and the rural setting means the Pennines and their network of walks are on the doorstep.
The cottage is a detached 1800s building with a modern interior. Downstairs, an open-plan living and dining area adjoins a galley kitchen; a multi-fuel burner provides heating throughout. Upstairs are a double bedroom, a bunk room suited to children, and a shower room. Two bedrooms sleep four people in total. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering. A lawned garden with sitting-out area and furniture overlooks fields toward Weardale valley. There is parking for two cars on site, and a bike store. One well-behaved dog can stay free of charge. The cottage sits within six acres of the owner's grounds, accessed by a rough track, but the seclusion does not mean isolation—the village is walkable.

Very nice cottage . Very warm and not very far from a shop. Just one thing, is the road down to the cottage is a bit of a put off .
