Wolsingham sits in Weardale, deep in the North Pennines and designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village itself is built around local amenities—three pubs serving food, cafés and independent shops are all within walking distance—yet the countryside opens up immediately beyond. Mill Stone Cottage occupies the heart of this conservation village, making it an easy base for exploring the surrounding dales on foot or by bike.
The cottage sleeps four across two bedrooms: one double with an ensuite, one twin. The bathroom on the first floor has a bath with shower and original features throughout. Downstairs, the kitchen is properly equipped for self-catering, with an oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave. The living room has a multi-fuel burner, beams and comfortable seating. A patio outside has garden furniture for sitting out. One car can be parked on site, and there's a bike store if you're arriving on two wheels. Electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are included; initial logs for the burner are provided. One pet stays free of charge. The cottage does not permit smoking.
This works well for families, couples or friends travelling together who want access to both village life and the walks and cycle routes of the wider dales. The nearest town is Durham, but Wolsingham itself has enough to occupy a few days.
