The Old Chapel Retreat
County Durham
The Old Chapel Retreat is a restored 19th-century chapel that sleeps 12 across six bedrooms and four bathrooms. It comes ready for a group stay: electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included. The kitchen has two electric ovens, a range, dishwasher and American-style fridge freezer—enough to cook for a full house. Ground-floor bedrooms suit those with mobility needs, with one featuring an ensuite shower; upstairs are three more ensuite rooms plus a further two bedrooms and a shower room. A games room on the second floor has a pool table and table football.
Downstairs spaces include two living areas (one with a woodburner and Freeview TV, the other quieter), a separate dining room, and a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. The courtyard outside has garden furniture and a barbecue. There is parking for two cars on site, plus space for more on the road. One pet stays free of charge. The property is non-smoking.
The location sits in County Durham countryside close to Raby Castle's deer park and the market town of Barnard Castle. Durham city, with its castle and cathedral, is 17 miles away. Beamish Museum, Croft Circuit and the Roman Wall are within reasonable driving distance for day trips.
