The Stables
County Durham

Bolam occupies high ground at the edge of the Tees basin, and The Stables sits within this small, quiet village where horses are ridden through the main street and countryside views stretch across the vale. The setting is genuinely remote from everyday bustle, yet the village pub is only a few hundred yards away, and a Michelin-starred restaurant lies 3 miles off. The cottage itself is a single-storey conversion attached to the owner's home, with everything on one floor: a living room with multi-fuel burner, a kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, two bedrooms (one a zip-and-link super king that can split into singles, the other a single), and a bathroom with bath and shower.
The property sleeps three and welcomes one dog free of charge. A lawned garden with patio, terrace and barbecue is enclosed and private. Two cars can park on site. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are included; the multi-fuel burner has initial fuel provided. Pets do not smoke, and neither should guests.
Walkers, cyclists and ramblers find this location particularly suited to them—bridleways and footpaths thread through the village and into the surrounding countryside, leading toward small towns including Staindrop, Heighington and Cockfield. The landscape moves through woodland, open fields and farmland without the weight of major towns nearby.
