Whitelee Windfarm's 130 km of forest trails start practically on the doorstep of The Hayloft, a converted rural retreat outside Darvel in East Ayrshire. The location appeals to walkers, cyclists and riders who want immediate access to off-road terrain without the drive. Galloway Forest Park—Britain's largest, sprawling across three hundred square miles—sits thirty minutes away by car, and the same short journeys reach Culzean Castle, Dumfries House and the coastal towns of Ayr, Prestwick and Troon with their beaches facing Arran.
The single bedroom sleeps two as a zip-and-link bed (or two singles on request), with an en-suite shower room. Downstairs, the open-plan living space combines kitchen, dining and sitting areas, equipped for self-catering with electric cooking. One dog stays free and has the run of the property, though it must be kept on a lead outside given the working horse farm setting. The hot tub sits twenty-five metres away, offering views across the countryside. WiFi, heating, bed linen and towels are included; on-site parking accommodates one car. A welcome pack arrives on check-in.
The owners keep resident animals—goats, alpacas, a donkey and tiny ponies—and can arrange interactive sessions or horse riding for those interested. Darvel itself is nearby if you want a village pub or shops. No smoking inside.

The few days we stayed at The Hayloft were just what we needed. Really comfortable accommodation, well equipped with everything you could need. The boys were more than helpful, even lending us their Bluetooth speaker when ours died, so we could continue listening to tunes by the fire. Hopefully we can return again sometime.

We had a great few days. The cottage has everything you need and more. Angela is very welcoming. The welcome pack of prosecco and treats was a lovely bonus. Views from the hot tub were superb. Plenty of walks for the dog too. Looking forward to staying again.

Brilliant place. From the second we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Lovely accommodation and hosts are fantastic. We enjoyed the place but had to leave a day early due to work. The hayloft is lovely but worth noting the hot tub area is across the yard. Not a problem as its yarded off and looks great but if you can get the other cottage worth paying the extra for as the hot tub is accessed directly. The cat, the dogs and the horses are all lovely and Angela's sons are lovely too. Great place and I think if we ever pop back in that area we will be back, just hope its less rainy 🤣. Thanks so much for a lovely week. P.s - the bed is massive and really comfy and the location is great for stargazing. Ooh and the hosts left us some sweets, crisps and a bottle of prosecco. They also have the towels, toiletries and everything you could need. Really made up with the place and have gone home relaxed and happy. Amy and Ryan

Just got home from a week’s stay in The Hayloft and it couldn’t have been better. Scenic views all around, a friendly and welcoming family, and resident pets made the stay fantastic! The hot tub is a lovely luxury, and The Hayloft was well equipped for 2 adults and our dog, with extras for the dog in case we forgot, and a goody basket for the adults. We will definitely be returning for a peaceful break again, away from the hustle and bustle!
