Ely sits on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens, close enough to Cambridge and Newmarket for day trips, yet far enough for genuine escape. The Anchor is a substantial detached house on the riverbank, looking out over the Ouse Washes. It sleeps ten across five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, making it suited to large families or groups sharing a holiday.
The house spreads over two floors with space to move about. Ground level has two living areas—one with a fireplace, the other with a Smart TV and games—plus a playroom. The kitchen opens onto a balcony. Upstairs are the five bedrooms: one with a kingsize bed and ensuite bath with walk-in shower; three doubles, each with ensuite shower; and two singles that share a connecting bathroom. Electricity, heating, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are provided. You'll find the usual kitchen equipment plus a dishwasher, and there's a hot tub in the garden for evenings.
The rear garden runs down to the river—about ten yards away—and has a patio, terrace, seating and a barbecue. There's also a play area with a trampoline and swings, table tennis, and coarse fishing on-site if you bring your tackle. Parking fits six cars. The house does not allow smoking. One pet is welcome.

Reading through some of the reviews...probably an overexaggeration because my visit was nothing like this! Rooms were super clean and the atmosphere was very comfortable. There is a game room at the bottom, which I thought was very neat. Very comfortable 7-day stay, with lots of great scenary around. Recommend to anyone thinking to stay in/around the Sutton area!!!

Great place to stay for a large family group or number of friends as there are 4 suites, two with extra sofa beds and all with own bathrooms. All comfortable, well equipped rooms. Worked so well for the eight of us spanning three generations. Loraine was a very accommodating and kind host who helped us out when our original booking was withdraw with less than 24 hours notice. We can’t thank her enough. Property was easy to find with ample car parking space. Located right next to the river so our children were able to swim and paddle board. Lovely outside space with great BBQ facilities, seating and play areas for children. Well equipped kitchen with access to outdoor balcony. Would definitely recommend. Only downside is it would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.

A lovely, extremely well-equipped cottage perfect for a countryside getaway for a large group. Nothing was too much to ask of the owners, they had great recommendations for local places to eat and were always quick to respond. The kitchen is also an amazing space to socialise, overlooking the lovely garden. Would definitely visit again!

The Anchor is a really lovely place for a family holiday. Great location (for Cambridge, Ely and surrounding area) with a river nearby and nice walk routes. The cottage is extremely spacious, stylish and sparkling with some original essences remained. We were very impressed by the thoughtful touches everywhere in the cottage and had great fun in the outdoor areas. It truly is a relaxing home from home. We enjoyed our stay very much (kids have already asked to go back) and would highly recommend the place!
