About Anchor Inn
Bury Lane sits amid the flat, open fen country outside Ely, and it's here that the Anchor Inn has stood since the 17th century, a timber-framed pub turned small hotel with the countryside pressing close on all sides. The Royal Worlington & Newmarket Golf Club lies nearby for those wanting a reason to venture out, while Ely itself is a short drive away.
There are just four rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi, along with drinks available in room and a kitchen for guests to use. The rooms are simple rather than plush, in keeping with the building's age, but they do the job for an overnight stay in the fens. Breakfast is included, and the inn's restaurant serves food on site, with a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating for warmer days.
Beyond the inn itself, the surrounding area offers further pubs, bars and restaurants within easy reach, along with other entertainment nearby. Free on-site parking is provided, which is worth knowing given the rural setting. It's a straightforward base for exploring the fens and the city of Ely beyond, rather than a destination in itself.

Reading through some of the reviews...probably an overexaggeration because my visit was nothing like this! Rooms were super clean and the atmosphere was very comfortable. There is a game room at the bottom, which I thought was very neat. Very comfortable 7-day stay, with lots of great scenary around. Recommend to anyone thinking to stay in/around the Sutton area!!!

A lovely, extremely well-equipped cottage perfect for a countryside getaway for a large group. Nothing was too much to ask of the owners, they had great recommendations for local places to eat and were always quick to respond. The kitchen is also an amazing space to socialise, overlooking the lovely garden. Would definitely visit again!

The Anchor is a really lovely place for a family holiday. Great location (for Cambridge, Ely and surrounding area) with a river nearby and nice walk routes. The cottage is extremely spacious, stylish and sparkling with some original essences remained. We were very impressed by the thoughtful touches everywhere in the cottage and had great fun in the outdoor areas. It truly is a relaxing home from home. We enjoyed our stay very much (kids have already asked to go back) and would highly recommend the place!

Right from the beginning we had a great experience staying at the Anchor. Fantastic communication from a really friendly and welcoming host, beautiful and spacious accommodation in the most secluded and beautiful location. The host went out of her way to accommodate my special request and responded so quickly. Lots of thoughtful extras included in the room and everything was clean and high quality. There were some beautiful walks just outside the door of the accommodation. Next time I stay I will definitely stay in the suite with access to the roof garden as it looked like a beautiful sun trap!
