East Riding of Yorkshire

Couples will find Lancaster ideal for a short break away from the city. This ground-floor pod sits within the grounds of Ye Old Red Lion, a working pub that serves food throughout the day, so there's no need to cook unless you want to. The pub has built a reputation for hearty portions and reasonable prices, with theme nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays drawing regulars. Staff are known for their friendliness.

The pod itself is compact but complete: a double bedroom, shower room, and open-plan living and dining space all on one level. French doors lead to a patio where a private hot tub seats four, and there's garden furniture for sitting out. The kitchen has a gas hob and fridge if you'd rather prepare something yourself. Wi-Fi, heating, bed linen and towels are all included, and there's parking for two cars on site. The village lies between York and Hornsea, making it a reasonable base for exploring the East Riding countryside and its stately homes. Smoking is not permitted.

We went there on a wowcher. Found this place with brilliant food. Brilliant staff. The chalets were small but adequate and comfortable. The staff are so helpful. The location is out of the way but the bus service to hull and Beverley is every thirty mins.the bus to you take about one hour fifteen mins. Next door to the olde red lion is a fish and chip shop with fantastic cooked haddock. We will be going back to the olde red lion and recommend that you do too. The breakfast is superb.

Had a short two night b&b break to just chill. The staff were all lovely and friendly, as were the locals we spoke with. The accommodation was a lovely clean room with all amenities - shower, TV, Wi-Fi and tea/coffee facilities. We opted to eat in the evenings at the pub too, so glad we did the food was excellent, plentiful and reasonably priced. They are happy to take good old fashioned cash too. 👍🏻

Amazing food, such good quality and a great menu with lots to choose from. Theme nights on a Tues & Wed are incredible value. Staff are super friendly too.

We stayed in one of the pods at ye olde Red Lion (Halifax) for our one-year anniversary and unfortunately left feeling really disappointed. The idea of a private pod with a hot tub sounded lovely, but the reality didn’t match expectations. Firstly, we were given just one toilet roll for two people staying five days. When we asked for another, we were told we’d need to go and get it ourselves because there was only one member of staff. Not exactly great hospitality. The food was also very poor. I ordered the lasagne and it was dry, tasteless, and definitely not worth the money. Speaking of prices, the drinks were shocking too — £7 a pint is steep, especially considering the overall experience. One of the main reasons we booked was the hot tub, but then found out you can’t use your “private” hot tub after 10pm. It also wasn’t as private as advertised, which was disappointing for an anniversary stay. Kind of kills the romantic vibe when you’re on a curfew like it’s Year 9 prom. The pod itself was lacking basics too. No microwave, just a poor hob and toaster, so if you bring any reheatable food you’re out of luck and pushed towards eating at the restaurant. To top it off, the light bulbs inside constantly flickered the whole stay, which was really irritating and made the pod feel neglected. If your husband is built like a brick house he won’t be able to fit between the shower and the wall when on the toilet. Overall, overpriced, poorly equipped, and not the relaxing special stay we hoped for. Sadly wouldn’t return. Oh and just to add to, when we were younger we we told to help housecleaning and strip beds, clean up after ourselves etc. so this photo says it all

Diners like this pub's excellent, home-cooked food, with generous portions and great value, especially the popular Tuesday and Wednesday theme nights. They also highlight the friendly, welcoming staff and the warm, cozy atmosphere.

Some reviews mention the food can be poorly cooked.
