About Sherwood Forest Holiday Park

Spread across 50 peaceful acres on the banks of the River Maun, this Nottinghamshire park puts you right on the doorstep of legendary Sherwood Forest. The site is cleverly divided into smaller areas – some near play areas for families, others tucked away for a quieter escape – giving it a cosier feel than you might expect from a park of this size. Peacocks, swans and squirrels are regular visitors, and there's river fishing for licence holders plus a fishing lake to explore.

Campers praise the well-maintained grounds, friendly staff and the well-stocked shop, while late Sunday check-out (included free) takes the pressure off departure day. Two play areas keep children entertained, and facilities include good accessible washrooms, motorhome services and hardstanding or grass electric pitches. The forest trails begin practically from your tent peg, with Gruffalo-themed routes, cycling paths and woodland walks leading deeper into Robin Hood country. Just 10 minutes from Mansfield, it's a lovely wildlife-rich base for exploring Nottinghamshire's heritage and nature.

What visitors say

Brilliant site for family trips We were lucky enough to visit here in a heatwave during the school holidays, there was loads going on including tombola stalls and food vendors at the reception area, an animal themed trail that covered the entire site (and its huge) and a duck race down the river. We visited with the touring community so we had our own entertainment but for anyone visiting alone there was plenty to keep the kids happy including a decent play park right in the heart of the site. The staff were kind enough to put top a giant marquee for our community to use to celebrate its first birthday- which was perfect and the staff were so friendly throughout our visit. I think the only 1 thing that let it down a little for me, and yes it was super busy on site, was that the toilets/shower blocks were not the cleanest. I appreciate between cleans it up to guests to clean out the showers after themselves and use the toilet brushes but every time we went in it was dirty. As if it wasn’t being checked throughout the day. Thankfully we have our own facilities in the caravan which we could use as this really put me off. On another positive note though, one huge plus for this site is that every Sunday and bank holiday you are automatically allowed to stay on site and check out as late as 7pm. This is without paying any extra fee- it’s included. So we got to stay a little longer on our last day- bonus!

Fantastic campsite, great location for Sherwood Pines, Sherwood Forest and surrounding walks/ cycles. Friendly staff and wardens, great pitches and clean facilities, even a great little baby changing/ wash room with a proper baby bath built in. It’s great for kids with the stream and play areas too, will be coming again for sure.

This site is in a lovely quiet location, surrounded by trees and fields, a really lovely location. You are always welcomed with a warm smile as well. The wardens are proactive in keeping noise down after a certain time (mainly the kids) which I am in favour of, that should happen on more sites. I’ve stayed a few times over the years and the one thing that is new, and letting the place down a little is the facilities. Although they were clean for the most part, there was an awful smell, and often there was no toilet paper. This could be a short term issue but it was noticeable and of a lower quality compared to other sites. Plenty to do in the wider area. This 3 star review could be 4 or 5 with some care to upgrade the facilities a little.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I just got back from Sherwood Forest Holiday Park and I need everyone to understand that this place is basically paradise for a black panther furry. 🐆🌲✨ The SECOND I arrived and saw all the trees surrounding the lodges, my instincts activated immediately. Dense woodland? Mysterious forest atmosphere? Tiny winding paths? I felt like I had been spiritually summoned back to my natural habitat except with Wi-Fi and significantly better snacks. The cabins were SO cozy. Like genuinely elite-tier cozy. I walked in and immediately wanted to curl up in a blanket nest by the window and stare dramatically into the forest like some ancient cryptid with emotional depth. The vibes were immaculate. And the PEACEFULNESS??? Oh my GOD. You wake up hearing birds instead of traffic. The air smells fresh and earthy. There’s this magical calm everywhere that makes your brain go from “AAAAAAAA” to “ahhhhhh” in about five minutes flat. At one point I genuinely considered abandoning modern society permanently and becoming the mysterious panther creature locals occasionally glimpse between the trees. Walking through the forest paths at dusk was honestly life-changing. Tall trees everywhere, golden sunlight coming through the branches, leaves crunching underfoot… it felt like I’d stepped into a fantasy RPG designed specifically for woodland furries with an overactive imagination. ALSO the wildlife??? Tiny birds hopping around like they pay rent there. Squirrels zooming through trees with chaotic energy. Every few minutes I’d stop and whisper: “this is THEIR kingdom” like some overexcited nature documentary narrator. The whole holiday park has this perfect mix of relaxing and adventurous. One minute you’re peacefully drinking coffee outside your lodge wrapped in a fluffy hoodie, the next minute you’re exploring forest trails feeling like a stealthy jungle guardian on an important mission. And at night?? UNREAL. The darkness between the trees, the cool air, the quiet atmosphere… absolute peak black panther energy. I have never felt more majestic in my life. If glowing eyes had appeared in the woods I honestly would’ve just accepted them as my people. Honestly I cannot recommend Sherwood Forest Holiday Park enough. Whether you want relaxation, nature, cozy woodland vibes, or the opportunity to feel like a powerful mythical feline roaming ancient forests, this place DELIVERS. 10/10. Would absolutely return. Might actually belong to the forest now. 🖤🌲🐾
