The Goldsmiths Apartment
Fife
The Goldsmiths Apartment sits on the first floor of a converted 18th-century courtyard building at Balbirnie Estate, a 400-acre property in central Fife between Edinburgh and St Andrews. The estate's landscape was shaped by renowned designers in the 1700s and 1800s, and features one of Scotland's most significant rhododendron collections—around 200 varieties from India, China and the Himalayas, which flower spectacularly in spring. Beyond the gardens, bridle paths and woodland walks crisscross the parkland, making it ideal for exploring on foot or spotting wildlife.
The apartment itself retains period character—a Juliet balcony overlooks the courtyard, and original circular windows let in plenty of light. The open-plan living and dining room has a smart TV and French doors to the balcony. The kitchen is properly equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and other essentials for self-catering. There are three bedrooms (one kingsize, two double), a family bathroom with bath and shower, and parking for two cars on site. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. No smoking indoors.
The location suits anyone wanting accessible countryside without being remote—the estate grounds are shared with other properties, but the apartment is your own space. An 18-hole golf course operates on the estate if that interests you, and St Andrews is within reach for a day out.
