The Old Smithy

Fife

The Old Smithy sits a stone's throw from Anstruther's beach, with the working harbour, independent shops and a pub within a short walk. This converted terraced cottage dates partly to before 1730, when it served as a stable and smithy; the building was carefully restored to a prize-winning standard and now combines period character with contemporary comfort. One well-behaved dog is welcome to stay.

Inside, an open-plan ground floor holds the living and dining areas plus a kitchen equipped for proper cooking: electric oven, hob, dishwasher and washer-dryer. Upstairs, two double bedrooms (each 4ft 6in beds) and a shower room. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are supplied; heating and electricity are included. There is free parking in the public car park across the water, or on-road parking nearby. The cottage is yours alone for the duration of your stay, and does not permit smoking.

Anstruther has been a fishing and trading port for centuries. The location on Wightman Wynd connects you to local history—the street's name honours a 1700s merchant whose cellars once sheltered survivors from the aftermath of Culloden. Today, the town draws visitors interested in its maritime heritage, its beach and the quality of its restaurants and cafes.
