If you are interested in Lighthouses it is a great place to go. Unfortunately it can't be reached by public transport so you do have to drive, it's worth the drive. You get a tour of the Lighthouse and a demonstration of how the light works. If you're a Lighthouse nerd like I am that's really special to witness. The view is beautiful too and the Museum is full of interesting stuff.

Very interesting guided tour to the very top of the lighthouse where you can see it actually working, our guide was very knowledgeable and answered questions, beautiful surrounding area with benches to sit and take in the views. The museum was quite big and had loads of information on the different lighthouses and the kind of lights used through the years. A nice day out.

A first-class niche museum which provides a far more interesting visit than you might first imagine. An essential trip when in Fraserburgh and the region. Covering the history of Scottish lighthouses, it majors on the technologies used over the centuries and the working and social lives of the lighthouse keepers and their families. The included 45-minute free tour is worth taking as it goes into the most important and interesting details and allows you to ask questions. It takes you to the top and the outside of the lighthouse, which involves climbing steep stairs and one steep weekend ladder with handrails. Views from the walkway round the top are worthwhile and reach 30 miles to the horizon at sea. Inside the exhibition centre are exhibits and information on 3 levels and a 15-minute film on constant rotation. The centre has a shop and free car park with spaces for about 30 cars. Admission prices include a discount for over-60s.

Great little place telling a lot about a subject I knew very little about. Lots of accounts about the way of life for a lighthouse keeper, lots of artifacts from stations that have been upgraded over the years and a cracking tour of the nearby lighthouse. Prices were very reasonable and the gift shop had a lot of goodies for you to take home.
