About Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site
Deep in the New Forest near Fritham, Ocknell offers a proper back-to-basics escape with nearly 200 pitches spread across grass and hardstanding. What you give up in electric hook-ups you gain in space and tranquility—expect forest ponies wandering past your tent and deer grazing at dusk. The toilet blocks are kept spotlessly clean, and there's a handy on-site shop with fair prices, which matters when you're this remote.
Over-60s concessions make it particularly good value, and direct access to forest trails means you can head out walking or cycling straight from your pitch. Staff are genuinely helpful, creating a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere that suits families, motorcyclists, and DofE groups equally. The lack of modern frills is entirely the point—this is the New Forest at its most authentic.

What visitors say
Great campsite! So much nature and animals! Lots of tent spaces under the trees, quiet! Had a lovely chat with the reception team as well! The only downside is that it doesn’t have showers… (I was aware of it so it wasn’t a problem) Thanks a lot and I will see you soon!

Great camping in the north of the New Forest offering convenient basic accommodation. The camping is large with many pitches, so more peaceful than others. Toilets were always clean and in working order - no showers though. Shop is open until 8pm offering all the basic bits you might have missed at reasonable prices - much appreciated. Soil can be hard so try bringing rock pegs, but reception also sell them along with rubber mallets. It was very special to see the ponies, donkeys and horses wandering around. Staff was also very friendly and helpful! Only cards accepted.

Excellent basic campsite with toilets, pot wash, grey and black waste, fresh water. No showers, but this is clearly stated. Grass or hard standing pitches spread over a large flat site. The hard standings are a basic concrete base, probably used when the area was a WW2 RAF base. Your choice of open or shady spots. Great access to forest and moorland walks and trails. My Irish Terrier puppy loved it. A big bonus is a concession for over 60's,(20% low season or 10% other times). The rates are cheap as well. On-site reception with small shop serving coffee, friendly staff.
