About Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa
Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa occupies a Georgian manor house on Boreham Road just outside Warminster, around seven miles east of Frome, set within thirty acres of grounds that include a stretch of the River Wylye and a Doric temple folly. The hotel has built a reputation on a relaxed, family and pet-friendly approach to country house hospitality rather than a stiffly formal one.
The spa includes indoor and outdoor pools, treatment rooms and extensive grounds for walking, while the restaurant draws on produce from Wiltshire and Somerset farms. Bedrooms are spread across the main house and a walled garden wing, decorated in a contemporary country style.
Its location makes it a comfortable base for visiting both Longleat, a short drive away, and Frome itself, as well as Bath and Salisbury, and it suits couples and families wanting spa facilities and river frontage that the town centre hotels in Frome cannot offer.

What guests say
Booked a 3 night stay & on arrival it looks beautiful, lovely building with extensive grounds & lots of parking, greeted warmly at reception & helped upstairs with luggage by staff to our room. Opened door to our room, room 6 ( a roomy room according to website) & was hit with the extreme heat,we had booked online thru Expedia (we are platinum members) & requested AIr con hotels only in the tick box due to the heatwave.,The room was beautiful but it felt like satans armpit with NO Air conditioning & just one fan ! It was later that we found out the room was above the kitchen to allow for further heat !!! All staff told us the hotel doesn’t have air conditioning as they are a listing building, except they did have a NON functioning one of days gone by on our room ! It gave as much air as a feather being dropped to the floor ! The room continued to be a furnace ! As for actual air con the only place that has it is the restaurant, not in any of the bedrooms ! So we head to the outside terrace, & hubby orders cigars as they apparently serve Havana cigars but the one he orders isn’t in stock nor is his second choice & we are informed there are no cigar cutters & you can’t smoke on the terrace anyway, so if you are a cigar smoker this is not a cigar destination as there is no where to smoke them enjoyably, as standing outside the front of the building isn’t a option, most cigar smokers want a comfy chair for a hours long cigar smoke. We then book a table for dinner outside as advised to my our server, who actually asked which table we would like reserved , (we were told by reception that no indoor tables available except one very late at 8.45pm only which was too late for us ) we were told our particular table will be reserved, only to find that the waitress has given our table away to someone else,we order dinner & my husband has sea bass & its literally inedible & sent back, mine comes with mushrooms when I particularly had a long conversation with the waitress about how I hate mushrooms and I don’t want them on my plate & yes you guessed it it came out with mushrooms ! It’s the attention to detail or lack of it that gets me & what’s more who brings out food & doesn’t give you any cutlery either !!! We waited ages for cutlery to be brought out with hot food on the table & after 10 mins just opted to go and find some myself from inside as no one was coming back out! There was also lots of wasps outside, also the guy who brings you a bill to put it on your room but doesn’t bring you a pen & then walks off only for me to have to get up to find a member of staff for a pen to sign for it. First night was a disaster really, the sea bass was taken off the bill and given a free drink each and offered another meal & service charge removed,so they tried to make it better but we cancelled our dinner reservation the next night & went elsewhere. Sleeping that night was also a disaster as the room felt so uncomfortable in the heat & we both had very little sleep. Next day we had breakfast which was a much better experience, good food, good service and air conditioning in the restaurant, we tried out the spa area too, unfortunately the outdoor pool isn’t finished yet which was disappointing as we really looking forward to trying this but the indoor pool, steam room & outside hot tubs were fabulous and a great addition. We really enjoyed the spa facilities & also soaked up the sun outside on the sun loungers & wandered round the grounds, the views from the terrace are lovely. There were lots of good points to the hotel, beautiful building, good location & beautiful decorated room with roll top bath in room, fresh milk in mini fridge with jar of ginger biscuits to welcome you. But without air conditioning sadly we did leave a day earlier then planned. Overall a mixed bag and some improvements with service would be great,if we were to stay again it would have to be in autumn/winter months when cooler & building works have finished.

I booked dinner, spa b&b for my husband’s 40th. It’s pricey but worth every single penny! The hotel, spa and grounds are exquisite! Food, drink and dog facilities incredible and staff super friendly and attentive, genuinely lovely staff who made our stay feel really special! If you’re looking to spoil yourself, loved one & pup this is this place for you. Thank you so much - we will be back!

I’ve deducted 1 star off of the rooms only because I’ve been lucky enough to stay I. So E amazing hotels in the world. I would very happily recommend this hotel. Management must be complemented because all the staff understand what great customer service looks like. Every member of staff has been encouraged to talk to customers and above all they appear to be given freedom to make decisions. The food has been excellent. Breakfast was great in all ways and mid day we had a lite appetiser (pea and ham soup), really tasty. They are adding an outside pool, so some areas look like a building site but I’m looking forward to coming back when finished.

We had such a special time celebrating my mum’s birthday as a family. The food was absolutely stunning. We stayed for two nights and ate at the hotel. The whole time food was consistently great and the service also. We spent our Saturday in the spa they kindly accommodated us as we had lots of appointments throughout the day. All the spa ladies were brilliant and I really enjoyed my massage however I had the most perfect pedicure I’ve ever had from Linda. Linda made my whole families spa experience very special. Would recommend a stay here to anyone.
