About Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall Hotel

Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall Hotel occupies a Georgian former manor house at Upton St Leonards, set within its own landscaped parkland a few miles south-east of Gloucester city centre. The building's period features, including grand reception rooms and mature grounds, sit alongside the reliable comforts of the international Mercure brand.

Rooms are traditionally furnished, and the hotel's restaurant and bar make use of the manor house setting for both casual dining and more formal occasions. The parkland grounds and function rooms make it a regular choice for weddings and conferences, alongside its role as a comfortable overnight base for visitors to Gloucester.

Its position close to the M5 and just a short drive from the cathedral and docks suits visitors who want easy road access and a quiet, green setting to return to after a day exploring the city.

The grounds are beautiful, staff were lovely. Check in was straightforward. Good breakfast - overall was good. Good car parking as well. The only thing that let’s this place down is the quality of rooms - outdated, no aircon which was disappointing as the weekend I went, the weather was glorious and I had a fan in my room which was blowing warm air. The shower wasn’t great in my room so can’t comment for all rooms. They do need an upgrade I feel.

We stayed three nights at the Bowden Hall Hotel to enable us to visit attractions in the Gloucester and Forest of Dean area. The hotel is well suited for this, being in the village of Upton St Leonards about three miles from the city centre. There was plenty of free car parking. You can also get there by public transport, the 2 & 2A buses from the city centre run every 15 minutes on weekdays, take about 25 minutes and stop in the village 10 minutes walk from the hotel. We had a standard room with garden view, which was large and bright with plenty of natural daylight. All the equipment worked as it should, although the shower in the room (230) was a little difficult to turn off fully. The bed was reasonably firm and level, and we slept as well as we ever do in hotels. The restaurant was also bright and spacious, in that tables were spaced out with none too close to each other. All the serving staff were very pleasant and helpful, and deserve commendation for this, particularly on the first night when there was a large party to be served. This did not affect the speed of service for other guests like ourselves. Although it was a fixed menu, there was a very good choice and we had no difficulty choosing different dishes for each of the three nights we were there. We had an enjoyable relaxing break at this hotel, and would recommend it.

Stopped off at Bowden Hall for two nights while visiting family early July 26. Very reasonable rates and staff are friendly and helpful. Surrounding landscape is beautiful.Breakfast is good and a selection to suit all. The standard room is fine with comfortable bed and shower over bath. Air conditioning in the room was very welcome during the very hot spell of weather. WiFi also very good. Great value for your money. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Wonderful Wedding Experience We recently had a small wedding at Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, every member of staff made us feel so welcome and special. The team were attentive, professional, and genuinely kind, which made our day feel relaxed and truly memorable. The food was lovely, and the staff serving it were outstanding — so polite, friendly, and incredibly efficient. Everything ran smoothly, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. Anna and I would like to thank everyone at Bowden Hall for all the care and effort that went into our wedding. You helped make our day unforgettable, and we are so grateful. Highly recommended. — Marcos & Anna
