Hatton Court Hotel

Beautiful setting within easy reach of Gloucester. Cheltenham and Stroud, if you want the hustle and bustle of the city and shops. However, we were happy with the relaxed atmosphere of the countryside and being pampered. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, and fully stocked refreshments of both hot drinks and alcohol. Breakfast was available in your room if required. Staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. Food was well presented and very tasty. There was plenty of free parking and lots of outdoor sitting areas. The indoor areas of the hotel were plush, well furnished and decorated. We would definitely visit again.

The tale of two halves . The hotel areas were luxurious. Friendly welcoming staff . The food was nicely cooked and tasty but very very expensive for what it was . Good location with beautiful views . Drinks expensive £26 for 2 gin and lemonades ! The bedroom was awful . Tired and worn with delaminated furniture, no spare plug sockets by the bed , stains on the carpet. The bathroom was filthy and tired , the once gold taps were tarnished and filthy , the Jacuzzi had missing bits to the jets , the floor tiles loose and grout filthy and missing in places . The bath seals absolutely grotty . Ive stayed in better in a travelodge. Such a shame . I stayed at this hotel back in 2001 , same baths, same decor and clearly not enough investment in what matters to guests . Sadly this hotel is a shadow of it's formal self , all those special things that once were have gone ...like fluffy robes , luxury biscuits , sparking water ...breakfast was premium quality not what its like now ( a Weatherspoons breakfast is better and not £17! ) . You used to get a free Newspaper too . TV is not a smart TV so you can't watch Netflix etc .

Japanese inspired room with no interior door to the bathroom was not great. Everyone needs privacy at certain times. This meant when using the toilet during the night with the automatic flush was noisy. First morning we had no lights. Room was tucked in the corner of the annexe with very little natural light. On the 2nd night we were woken by pipes banging from the room upstairs. An air lock?. I had to ask 3 times for our breakfast order to be taken. First excuse used was that I was not seated! 2nd time, the waitress 'didn't take orders' & 3rd time I was told abruptly that there was a 'system'. Overheard a gentleman asking for a sausage; the young waitress told him he'd have to pay extra. Ridiculous, my husband & I didn't have sausages so he could have had our allocation. Food was exceptional but the hotel was not a great location either.

We arrived as two couples on a Saturday evening and had an evening meal at the hotel restaurant booked for the evening. Plenty of parking, though on a slope. Lovely views out over the west. Very friendly staff, the bar drinks were amazing too. Our evening meals were beautifully cooked and prepared, all served by attentive staff. Room was good, though the bathroom a little tired, a corner bath flexed a lot when stood in for the shower, and let water pool on the floor without a screen. I'd recommend a refit & walk in shower for this room. In the morning we had high expectations of a cooked breakfast, unfortunately the excellent restaurant was let down by a sub standard kitchen full English, cheap sausage, hash browns were fridge cold in the middle and got sent back, another table too had same. I'd recommend a good tasty butcher's sausage to improve the quality of this dish at a minimum. It was worse than a roadside transport cafe offering, and not prepped by the same chefs as the previous eve meal. We had a lovely stay nonetheless, quality and clean. We'd stay here again, but brekky would need an overhaul. Thank you
