What visitors say
2nd time here and still really good. Yes there are more geese, so that equals more poop, but its a wildlife haven so you have to accept that. 6 of us and the dog stayed in a lodge. Plenty of space l, good facilities. A reminder this isn't a hotel, so you need to think you are still camping, when you book it. So remember towels, shampoos, washing up liquid. Woodys bar is great, staff are wonderful, food is great too. All in all, whether you fish or you don't, its a great base for a relaxing stay

We decided to find a lodge by a lake for a peaceful weekend and this option was the closest option for us, at only an hour and a half from Leicester. The lodge itself was smart, modern and clean, apart from the invasion of ants! I spent most mornings protecting the food buy exterminating the critters whilst making the morning coffee. There were three bedrooms, one en-suite, and a family bathroom. The lounge was huge and there was a large dining table that easily accommodates 8. The kitchen is equipped with dishwasher and washing machine, but no freezer. The views were excellent but the lodges are quite close, so there is no privacy. We paid £585 for 3 nights. Now bearing in mind that there was only the two of us, that is really expensive. What makes it even less value for money is the fact that there are no towels, no complimentary shampoos or soaps, no washing up liquids or utensils, basic condiments, nothing! There were 2 complimentary disposable bbqs but nothing to light them with! This is great value if there are 6 adults staying together because it works out at £100 per person for 3 nights, but for the two of us it was £300 per person for 3 nights. We could have got a really decent hotel for half of that price. We aren’t fishing people, so there was no benefits, so for a quiet romantic weekend, this is not the place for you! Another thing to remember, bring old trainers/shoes as there is bird pooh EVERYWHERE. The geese, swans, ducks and moor hens are pretty to look at, but they make a terrible mess. The walk around the lakes and site took us 20 minutes, so this gives you a sense of the size. There is a bar/restaurant on site, shower blocks for the campers and a fishing shop for tackle and bait. Not good value for money and the lodges are very under equipped.

Caravan stay. Worst showers I've ever used on a campsites. One block was locked. The other had a short queue. The actual shower was just a trickle, no kidding. When one of the other showers timer ran out you got a little bit more of a stream, but then back to a trickle, once they had pressed the button again. You pay good money and so expect the facilities to work well.
