Weyside Guest House

We chose this pub for its location on the edge of the town centre, overlooking the river. It’s a lovely setting, with a large outdoor area and plenty of seating along the water. However, the sheer number of covers may be part of the problem. Ordering is done via the app, which works well for drinks but makes it difficult to get anyone’s attention when needed. Unfortunately, the food took over an hour to arrive, and other tables who were seated after us were served first. We eventually had to chase the kitchen—otherwise, we might still be waiting. The menu is fairly limited, which can be a positive, but it leans heavily towards old-school pub classics that many of us have somewhat grown out of. I had the burger, which was cooked well—nicely pink—with decent flavour, but it was served lukewarm. The patty also looked more like something pre-prepared than made fresh in-house. My wife ordered the chicken Caesar; the chicken was dry, and it turned into a bit of a “hunt the anchovy” situation—there were just three. A friend had the battered fish and chips, which was let down by an overly heavy batter-to-fish ratio. Overall, this feels much more like a place for drinks in the sunshine than a destination for good food.

I had a wonderful experience at The Weyside. I was served by Kai, who was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the meal. His excellent service really made the visit even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious—I had the cheeseburger, and it was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Sitting outside by the riverside on a beautiful sunny day made the whole experience even more special. A big thank you to Kai and the team for such a lovely lunch. I’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend The Weyside to anyone looking for great food, excellent service, and a fantastic setting.

Look, I get that you’re paying for the location: nice pub on the river a walk from Guildford centre, but we were immensely disappointed with the food last week after ordering a steak sandwich… At least we know where the margin is… sandwich doesn’t come with chips and the amount of actual steak was laughable. Pics enclosed. £13.50 for this. Chips were £6 extra so £19.50 all in. I’ve added a photo of a steak sandwich I’ve had today at an independent pub in the Surrey hills and that cost me £19… the difference is absolutely insane. So value for money is really pants here. Not sure the on-river location can justify the lack of substance. Provided this feedback to the staff which was “noted by the chef”. Good to know.

Really disappointment with my visit yesterday. I’m local to the pub and have been a few times before with no issues however this time the food and service was very poor. Ordered the chicken burger which had the thickest bun I’ve ever had and was 2/3rds batter, some looking burnt. This was the main issue, for £19.50 I expended better. Decided not to eat it, put a napkin on top to make it clear and 15 mins waiting for someone to come over and take my plate also so I mention my food. Ever table around us was cleared apart from ours. After 15 mins I gave up and left my plate and told the bar staff, no apology at all after I told them about my food they just said okay I’ll pass the feedback across. Such a shame.
