What visitors say
Amazing zoo. So many animals, all easy to see. Very hilly/slope-ey. Lots of food places. Visited on a Friday during school hours and it was quiet. You can feed the parquets after purchasing a £1 nectar cup to feed them - they land on your arms and sometimes head. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Bit pricey food wise, but it's what you'd expect. There are experiences you can pay to do also, like feeding the giraffes, elephants, and also a tiger experience. I've only ever done the giraffe one, but it was so fun and a memory I'll cherish. Took a 11 year old and a 3 month old - plenty of outdoor spaces to adventure and also baby changing / toilets throughout the park. Definitely in my top three zoos.

Lovely from beginning to end, plenty of well signed parking areas. Easy access, entry to zoo spacious and friendly. Maps are well printed for all ages and abilities. ( being older myself its nice to be aware of steep inclines coming up). So much information regarding all animals. Nice to know what's coming up (especially nice to hear the lion enclosure is moving forward). OK you dont always see everything you want but animals are not actors paid to perform....patience sometimes needed. Lots of eating areas, picnic spots, toilets. All in all a brilliant day out. I went with ages from 5 to 66 and we all had the best day. Lovely gift shop.at the end. (Unsure if you can leave the zoo without going through it). Even a toilet on exit if needed. Lovely day thankyou colchester zoo

A fantastic place for a day out and one of the best zoos I’ve visited. The exhibits are spacious, well designed, and beautifully presented, making it a great experience for both visitors and the animals. There are so many different species to see, and it’s easy to spend a full day exploring everything the zoo has to offer. There are also plenty of food and drink options throughout the park, all reasonably priced and with a good variety to choose from. Overall, it’s excellent value for money and a brilliant day out for couples, families, or anyone who loves wildlife. I’d definitely recommend a visit!

The whole experience was fun, relaxing, and memorable. We spent hours exploring and never got bored because there was always something new to see. It’s a perfect place for families, couples, and anyone who loves animals. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend Colchester Zoo to others. We can’t wait to visit again!

People say this zoo offers a wide variety of animals in spacious, well-maintained enclosures, with many opportunities for close-up viewing and interactive experiences like feeding giraffes or lorikeets. Visitors also highlight the numerous play areas for children, clean facilities, and helpful, knowledgeable staff. They mention the reasonable prices for food and drinks, and that annual passes offer great value.
