About Hardwicke Hall Manor Hotel
The stretch of County Durham between Castle Eden and Blackhall, just outside Hartlepool, is where you'll find Hardwicke Hall Manor Hotel, a 15-room country manor set within its own grounds. It's a quiet base for exploring the area, with Beamish Open Air Museum among the local attractions worth the drive.
Rooms here are kept comfortable and spotlessly clean, and guests can also expect drinks available in room, free WiFi and a lift for easier access. The hotel's restaurant and bar are a genuine draw, with a carvery, cooked breakfasts and afternoon teas that guests consistently rate highly. There's also a snack bar for something lighter, and staff are noted for being friendly and helpful throughout a stay. The hotel doubles as a wedding venue, and pets are welcome for those travelling with animals.
Outside, the grounds are well kept and add to the sense of space, with free on-site parking provided for guests, though the car park can get busy at peak times. Luggage storage is available for those breaking up a longer journey through the North East.
What guests say
We celebrated our wedding at the weekend and we had the most beautiful and amazing day. Alan and his team were fantastic! From the wedding build up to the actual day they were so helpful, friendly and kind! All of our wedding guests said what a beautiful day it was and how much they enjoyed the day. It was a good mix of chilled and relaxed vibes during the day to party time on the evening. The food from wedding breakfast, buffet to breakfast was delicious and Alan and the team were so good at adapting menus to meet the dietary needs of our guests. The wedding DJ on the evening, Greame, really listened to our music preferences and provided an excellent party track for the evening. This bride danced her feet off! It was just the most perfect day! A day we will always remember and cherish

We stayed for one night and unfortunately would not return. The building has plenty of character and the bed was very comfortable, which helped us get a good night's sleep. However, we were disappointed by the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel. Our bathroom had a raised door threshold with loose screws that presented a trip hazard. To their credit, staff responded quickly and placed hazard tape over it, but it should have been identified and repaired before guests arrived. We also found the bathroom door blind to be dirty and in need of cleaning or replacement. The hotel generally felt tired and poorly maintained. Ivy is growing into some of the windows, and in another room occupied by members of our party there were cobwebs and dead flies around the window area. Both my husband and I slipped on the uneven, wavy stairs, which was concerning. When we raised our concerns regarding cleanliness, the manager explained that the cleaners do their best. While we appreciate the efforts of the staff, we feel the issues we experienced were more related to maintenance and housekeeping standards than the efforts of individual cleaners. Overall, the comfortable bed was the highlight of our stay, but the cleanliness concerns and safety hazards mean we would not recommend the hotel or return in the future.

We had such a wonderful time at Hardwicke Hall Manor, such a relaxing location! I stayed here with my fiancee and 2 dogs in a lovely garden view room which was spotless and had everything you needed for the night. Stephanie was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our evening, then we were welcomed by Sharon at breakfast who equally ensured we were made to feel right at home! Thank you for such a wonderful stay - we will be back.

The staff provided excellent service, and the exterior of the premises was visually appealing. While the food was satisfactory, the condition of our assigned room was quite disappointing. Specifically, the shower produced an exceptionally loud noise, suggesting a substandard installation or repair.
