Duke of Wellington HQ

Photo: Duke Of Wellington HQ

Hastings Old Town spreads around this Grade II listed building, where the future Duke of Wellington established his headquarters in 1806. A blue plaque marks the historic significance on the High Street facade. The apartment occupies three floors of the property, positioned within walking distance of the seafront, independent shops, bars and restaurants that characterise the town centre.

The layout runs across three levels. The first floor holds an open-plan living and dining space with a sofa bed, smart TV and a kitchen equipped for full self-catering, plus a separate toilet. Upstairs, a bedroom with a kingsize bed opens to an ensuite shower room. The top floor contains a second bedroom with a day bed and a pull-out single, serviced by a bathroom with a bath. The apartment sleeps five and comes with wifi, heating, bed linen and towels included. One dog is welcome. There are multiple internal steps throughout the property, and children under 11 need prior agreement from the owner.

Public parking is available a two-minute walk away at a cost, with additional free spaces five minutes further on. The apartment is yours alone for the duration of your stay, with no smoking permitted inside.

Our stay in Hastings in August was simply wonderful. The accommodation impressed us with its lovingly curated interior, which immediately created a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Our hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making our stay even more enjoyable. The location in the charming old town of Hastings was perfect: just a few steps away, we found beautiful shops, cozy cafés, and many interesting sights. We were able to fully enjoy the unique atmosphere of the town and discover new corners every day. Hastings is definitely a place you want to return to—especially when staying in such a lovely accommodation.

Beautiful rooms had everything you could want, really enjoyed our stay, only downside was the breakfast hamper, because it's mentioned several times as a selling point, it was very basic, a loaf of bread, butter, some eggs and bacon, was hardly worthy to be called a hamper, if it was just put in the room and not made a big thing of, we would be over the moon at the kind gesture

A stylish air BnB keeping with the buildings history .All the modern facilities in the kitchen and bathrooms.. set in the old town of Hastings, quirky views from the main room.. it was a joy to stay and absorb all the local shops, restaurants and seafront 5 mins walk ! Then return to a relaxed , airy bnb.. where you can sit and watch the world go by😊 A welcome breakfast pack was a treat.. basically they thought of nearly everything and look forward to booking again .

We spent four nights here in June 2025 as a family of five visiting extended family. Lovely place. Great location--smack dab in the middle of Old Town and plenty to do within walking distance including the train station. (It's also a very easy bus ride away from the train station if you have lots of luggage with you.) The place itself is airy, roomy, and bright. The kitchen is very well stocked. Beds are large and comfortable. Bathrooms (2.5 of them!) are also large and modern despite the historical nature of the place. Our host was friendly--we had no problem arriving a bit early, and she even brought us some breakfast items to get started. The radiator heating system was a bit confusing for us as Americans used to central heating, but once it was set and turned on properly, the temperature was fine within a few hours. The only concern worth mentioning is that there are steep stairs up to the place and steep stairs within it as well. I don't think it's child-friendly/safew with kids under 7, and I would caution those over 70. If mobility is no issue, then I highly recommend this place for a visit to Hastings.
