Seagull’s Nest

Photo: Reanna M

Hastings Old Town sits on the Sussex coast with a working fishing beach, traditional boats and direct access to the cliffs and country park beyond. Seagull's Nest is a first-floor apartment positioned to take in sea views, a short walk from the sand and the clifftop trails that lead east along an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty towards Fairlight Glen and beyond. The Old Town itself holds the castle, various museums and galleries within easy reach on foot.

Inside are two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with a single—and a shower room. The living space includes a freesat television and DVD player. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and fridge, enough to prepare meals or keep things simple. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating are included; on-road parking is available 500 yards away. The flat is yours alone, and is non-smoking.

The location suits anyone wanting to explore the coast without a car—Hastings town centre, the East Hill Country Park, and the long-distance clifftop walks are all within walking distance. Pubs are nearby. Battle Abbey, Rye and Brighton are each within reasonable reach for day trips.

Really not happy, there's so many faults, the windows don't close, the window handle falls off in your hand, the stairs are not ideal for people with asthma. Or with people with disabilities. This wasn't advertised at all. There's no signage to where the building is. No signage on the door. The people for the place, aren't very useful really. When we got here, the key wasn't in the lockbox. The fire safety of this block is terrible. Its really unsafe. No fire instructions. The heating is automatic, when it's summer! Why? Even though it's across the way from the beach. Could of been a lot better. The lift still doesn't work even after years of it not working!! The fire safety of the building is putting people at rick. Had to call the fire bridge at 2am! Will most definitely not be staying here again. The number to call advertised is a dead line! This needs to be a better system! There's too many risks! I'm actually going to get my money back! Too many misadvertisments. And didn't tell us about many things. The mattresses are not soft at all, would of been better with 2 kings size beds. No shower gels, shampoo etc. Would of been nice to have little packets of milk, sugar etc just like a little something. Towels could of been bigger. There's a stain on the carpet. Could of done with more toilet rolls, 2 isn't enough for 4 people for 2 stays. No light bulb in the hallway, no light bulb in the lamp in one of the bedrooms, the Internet is really bad, doesn't stay connected. No extention lead in the bedroom. There's not many games, magazines, books, you can hear banging from one of the places in the block. You can hear people below talking downstairs. THE ONLY POSSTIVE THING IS THE PLACE ARE NICE. Update: we was told by the fire bridge, that the building has an outdated fire system and a faulty one. Which is illegal. We was woken up again at 6.30am with the alarm going off once again, twice in fact. This led me, my husband and kids to be stressed, triggered and needed to leave. This shouldn't be happening. This as led to our stay being shortened. Something has to be sorted. You're putting too many people life's at risk. I will be making complaints elsewhere!! Please if you want customers you're going to have to sort the safety measures out. Windows do not close at all, the handle to the window in one of the bedroom was hanging off. There's no safety in the place at all. There's mould behind the shower in the bathroom. The shower is alright not the best. Could of paid extra and stayed in a proper hotel at least the safety would of been better. Book at your own risk. In all honesty I wouldn't even risk it. We spoke to a couple staying in a different part of the building. The fire alarm was going off days before we got there. It's too risky. As you don't know if its a real fire or just the alarm. It's not worth staying.

Good location, terribly dirty throughout. If this place was properly and deeply cleaned it would be nice however in its current deeply filthy state it was unpleasant.

Clean and comfortable flat with amazing views. Right on seafront. Paid underground Parking very close. Only negative is the 100 steps and lift not working.
