Shear Barn Holidays and Touring

Great location close to the hills which are great for dog walks. We went on the may bank holiday weekend so it was exceptionally busy (Friday-Monday), would say it was likely at full capacity. We booked plot CE42 (tent with electric). We found this a good private spot when comparing to others, this spot was the quieter side which we liked. Very dog friendly venue lots of other dogs at the site all kept on lead. Family friendly. The Friday night it was rather noisy for us, definitely a party atmosphere on the other side of the site with loud music playing past the noise curfew time. The Saturday and Sunday nights were much quieter and the site was quiet with no music past the curfew time. The toilets and showers were very clean when we arrived on the Friday, didn't have to walk too far to get to them and we were close to a water supply tap. The only negative would be that we wake very early and headed to the showers at around 6/7am on the Sunday and there was no loo roll and the female toilets/showers were very dirty (it appears that it's likely I visited before they were cleaned that morning) but perhaps because of how busy it was over the BHW they should have been cleaned and loo roll stocked more often than usual. Unfortunately we were too busy to try out the pool but heard good feedback from others there. We were disappointed that on the BH Monday there was no breakfast available (we found out it was only weekends), seems that the venue is missing out there as we ended up going elsewhere. Overall we had a good experience and would rebook to attend again.

Well it's a mixed bag review from me. The staff are friendly and helpful, the site is well laid out, the toilets are kept clean, it's a peaceful site that's well lit at night. The bar area is pleasant and the live music is enjoyable. The hard standing pitches are level and of a decent size. The approach road is absolutely awful, far too narrow and with many impatient drivers using it. I ended up with several scratches on my caravan windows due to overgrown bushes, thankfully they will polish out. One of the toilets blocks never has any hot water. The showers have no seats or benches to use. The number of waste water disposal drains is far too few, I saw many people pouring their waste water down the toilet pans. The electricity supply isn't reliable, it was off several times during our two week stay. The charges to use the small swimming pool are bonkers, I agree with having a booking system, but then to charge as well!!

I went with my daugher and 2 of her friends, on the 4th to the 8th July 2026, after one of her friends had never been camping before. And our small sausage dog. On the way we told her about toasting marshmallows, bbqs ect. Only to be told that evening that we got there. were now not allowed these due to the new owners, and that dogs had to kept on the lead at all times. This was a shock to us as I was not told this when I called to book. If I had I would have gone somewhere else. We were also told on arrival that one of the shower blocks was now closed due to repairs. But where we told to pitch was a 5 min walk to the toilets. Which was a joke. But when we got up the camp sight it was nearly empty so we pitched up near a toilet/shower block. But again I was not told this information when I called to book. The feeling we got when we arrived and saw the changes was very much the feeling of the new owners wanting to push out tents and just go for campervans ect. As most of the sights that were not electric before, now had electric ports. Then the bar was not serving breakfast only lunc/ dinner. Again was not told this when booking. Which was a pain as we had to walk all the way into town to get breakfast. Then hang around there untill things opened as its a long walk back up. We used to go every summer. But had not been in 2 yrs. I will definitely not be going back which is a shame as it used to be and feel so relaxed. But unfortunately it didn't feel like that for us this year. 😕 again this is a shame as this was once our favourite place to camp. Due to the location and how friendly it was.

Great family getaway this time, been several times, but the best stay was our very recent stay, it was thriving which I havent seen for a very long time. Grounds are now really well maintained and looking really lovely and well kept, with very friendly staff. The park is in a beautiful setting with absolutely amazing views. Our best stay yet. Entertainment was great, and the price of food and drinks was amazing, cheapest in Hastings. Thank you to all the team at Shearbarn, we will be back.
