What guests say
Lovely one night stay while visiting Heswall for family occasion. Good sized room with comfortable bed and well-appponted ensuite. Excellent breakfast and so nice to have table service and choice of newspapers first thing in the morning. Would definitely stay again and would aim to have dinner as well next time.

Food terrible. A celebration lunch My aunties chips on fish and chips were burnt on the bottom of the chip!! I Had the grilled sardine on brown bloomer toast heritage tomato salsa rocket with balsamic dressing . - truly horrible toast was soft sappie with soft cheap underripe tomatoes cooked quickly place on top with a nicely grilled fresh sardine that was then doused with balsamic vinegar killing the flavour of the sardine and making it mushy with pea shoots on top . It was the worst kinda mush sour no flavour “ I don’t know how to cook” dish on the menu a student could do better and then trying to levy a charge of £13.95 for the dish - shameful! They didn’t charge me but I feel sorry for other clients who know they can cook this dish 100% better at home and have had this type of dish better differently presented and at a cheaper price in much better establishments than the jug and bottle. Cheapest thing to have at home for a lunch dish £2-4 for two if buying sardines in tomato sauce with rocket and baby plums tomatoes add on extra £2-6 for fresh sardines (per lb). Morraccan sardines style or Ottolenghi style or simple Mediterranean style with simple Bruschetta ; heritage tomatoes salsa cooked or marinated placed gapped from other ingredients ( so the juice does not leach on the plate) ; fresh grilled sardines separately placed on plate with some rocket placed son the plate separate from other ingredients with balsamic dressing on or on the side? That way you keep the intended flavours textures stay the same and customer can build their own. Do not keep it waiting at the pass! Great place a bit of love, skill and creativity and skills needed. Please either change how this dish is cooked and presented or take it off the menu and serve more sardines for £13.95 ?? Overpriced and totally underwhelmed What a shame , great place , great staff

We visited as a party of nine for Sunday lunch and generally were very happy with the service and food. We received a friendly and warm reception and given that there was another large party just ahead of us the service was acceptable in timing and delivery. One member required gluten free options and it was pleasing to find that available options were more than offered on the online menu choices when allergy needs were applied. That said it was felt that more options could readily be devised from present menus. One criticism was the state of the roast potatoes!! How does a chef offer and present such solid items? Whilst the meat of the lamb Henry fell off the bone, the roast potatoes were virtually impossible to cut with the cutlery on offer. It’s such a shame.

Honestly....the best roast dinner we have all ever eaten. We went yesterday to celebrate Mother's Day and were a table of 9. The service was brilliant and the food was absolutely delicious. As a family of 9 everyone said it was the nicest roast dinner they had and we had a few fussy people amongst us. The whole thing was faultless. The price across the menu was so well priced, a lot of other restaurants around the Wirral have at least another £5-6 on top of these meals and children's meal were great too. We will 100% be back very very soon. There are so many places across the Wirral that we have tried but hands down, The Jug and Bottle is the best! Can't wait for the terrace to be finished so we can have a few chilled ones in the summer! Bravo team!
