The Old Stable

Photo: The Old Stable

The Old Stable began life as a working building, and its stone walls, exposed beams and flag flooring still speak to that heritage. Now converted into a standalone cottage in the High Peak, it sits at ground level with a single step to the entrance, making it straightforward to access. Inside, an open-plan living space combines the sitting area, dining and kitchen in one room, while a separate shower room and upstairs bedroom complete the layout. The property is yours alone, with private parking for one car and a courtyard with garden furniture outside.

The kitchen is fitted for proper cooking—an induction hob and combi microwave-oven-grill mean you can prepare what you need. The bedroom holds a kingsize bed and has a TV; the sitting area has Freeview and a Bluetooth speaker for music. Heating, electricity, wifi, bed linen and towels are all included. No smoking throughout.

The cottage sits in walking country. Footpaths lead directly from the door towards Mam Tor, Jacob's Ladder and Kinder Scout. Edale village, less than a mile away, has two pubs serving food and a general store; a pub within a mile offers an alternative. The train station at Edale, roughly a mile distant, connects to the Manchester-Sheffield line. Castleton, Hathersage, Buxton and the major houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are all within 45 minutes by car.

Absolutely lovely stay. The stable has been tastefully decorated, clean & cosy. A perfect stay with only a 20 minute walk to the pubs.
