Eilean Donan Castle stands five minutes away, and the Isle of Skye is a twenty-minute drive—Dornie Croft - An Iolaire makes an excellent base for exploring this corner of the west Highlands. The property itself is a modern, architect-designed house built on the family croft, with views across Loch Long from nearly every room. A galleried study upstairs provides a quiet space to read or plan the day ahead, while downstairs an open-plan living area with full-height windows frames the landscape and lets you watch for eagles and other wildlife from the comfort of the sofa.
The house sleeps four across two bedrooms: a super king on the ground floor next to a walk-in shower room, and a king upstairs with an ensuite bath and separate shower. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking—oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee machine—and a sun room extends the living space. Air-source underfloor heating and electricity are included in the cost, along with wifi, bed linen and towels. There is private parking for two cars and an electric car charging point (charges apply). Children under ten are not accommodated. No smoking.
The location suits anyone drawn to Munro-bagging, coastal walks or simply sitting with binoculars and a hot drink while the light changes on the water. The surrounding land and loch views are the real feature here.

We had a grand holiday staying at the Dornie Crofts, in the village of Dornie, near Kyle of Lochalsh for 3 weeks in May/June 2025. It was a very convenient location for lots of tourist adventures and loved it. The Croft itself was very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Duncan and Shona were more than accommodating and just a lovely couple. If hubby still has any Munro's to complete in the area, we will definitely return to the Dornie Crofts. (He completed 21 Munro's in 16 hiking days from the Croft). The village of Dornie has 2 tasty pubs, a bakery close by and of course, Eilean Donan Castle with their tasty cafe with grocery stores a short drive away. Excellent holiday and we both highly recommend The Dornie Crofts.

I travel a lot, but first time in the UK. Honestly, this home and the hospitality of our hosts were above and beyond any other in my experience. Exceptionally well cared for home and, by far, the most ecologically mindful home I have come across. In fact, the entire Scottish Highlands folk seem to be wonderful stewards of their beautiful land and sea. The home is on the Loch along a perfectly well kept country street. We are surrounded by green hills. An easy walk to a restaurant and also a pub. The Eileen Dornan Castle (spectacular) is also in walking distance. We could not have enjoyed our experience more. I hope to return again. Thank you Duncan and Shawna❤️.

Dornie is an amazing place, the accomodation was clean and had everything we needed for our visit to the isles. The Wee bakery was a delight for freshly made breads and patisserie bakes just a short walk or drive from cottage. The isle of Skye is very picturesque and a great place for walking. We also seen a Hebridean Otter Just outside our cottage on the first day and a Golden Eagle on our last.

We’ve recently returned from a fantastic stay at ‘An Iolaire’. The house is beautifully decorated, comfortable and has plenty of space for 4 guests. Having the two bedrooms and bathrooms on different floors is perfect if sharing with friends/another couple like we were. The location is ideal if you’re looking for some rest and relaxation - you can’t help but switch off when looking across to the Loch from the living room windows. Eilean Donan Castle is a 10 minute walk from the house (go early before it opens to the public for some great photos) and the journey to Skye by car is around 1 hour. Duncan and Shona, the owners, were on hand from the moment we booked to answer any queries and provided us with all the relevant details on the house, and local area, prior to our arrival. The special touches also added to our trip - the lights and fire were on for us arriving after dark and the supply of local eggs, bread, biscuits and milk tasted delicious. Duncan and Shona couldn’t have been more helpful - they recommended local restaurants for celebrating a Birthday (we had a lovely meal in the Dornie Hotel, 5 min walk from the house) and were kind enough to post some items one of our party left behind from the trip. We’ve got some great memories from our Highland adventure and hope to be back again some time in the future. Don’t hesitate to book!
