Ethel’s House

Highland

This detached stone cottage occupies a promontory on Scotland's far north-west coast near Armadale, with unobstructed views across the bay. The building was physically relocated stone by stone to its current elevated position, and has since been fully renovated inside while keeping its traditional character. You get the whole place to yourself, with three bedrooms sleeping five, a shower room, and parking for two cars on site. One dog stays free and can use the enclosed garden, though the area is sheep country so dogs need to remain on a lead.

The ground floor holds a living room with a wood-burning stove, plus a well-equipped kitchen and dining space where every window faces the water. Bedrooms are upstairs—a king, two singles, and a single—with skylights that frame the dramatic Highland light, and blackout blinds if you prefer to sleep through the clear-sky sunrises. Oil underfloor heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included, along with wifi and logs for the burner. The cottage works well for spotting seals, whales and basking sharks from your base.
