Glencoe Mountain Cottages - Aonach Cottage

Photo: Johnathan Napier

Three steps lead into Aonach Cottage, a detached property set in a quiet glen valley south of Ballachulish. Ground floor space comprises a living and dining room with Freeview TV, opening onto an enclosed garden with sitting areas and a picnic table, plus a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. The single bathroom on this level has a bath with shower over. Upstairs are two further bedrooms: one with a kingsize bed, one with two singles, alongside the main bedroom with a kingsize. A cot and highchair can be arranged if needed.

The cottage sits on a private drive accessed through farmland, shared only with the owners' house and one other property. Three miles of glen separate you from Glencoe village's shops and pubs. The setting suits walkers—paths start from the door into higher ground—but equally suits those who simply want to be among the mountains without strenuous hiking. Parking for three cars is on site. One well-behaved pet stays free. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. There is a natural water supply from a spring. No smoking throughout. The grounds contain steps and a small wildlife pond.

Fantastic location in Glencoe area, up a long driveway to a secluded spot among the mountains. Outside the door is access to wide open, beautiful natural scenery. We hiked directly from the cottage a couple of the days. The house is well equipped for cooking. A bit cozy for our group of six but definitely adequate. Hot water was sufficient for six showers in a row! Our only issue was accessing the property. We had read that the driveway was long, but didn’t realize it would be bumpy and rutted. Our sedan rental scraped bottom multiple times going up and down it. Suggest renting a Jeep or similar high suspension vehicle if staying here. Nearby Clachaig Inn was great for dinner and music on Sunday night. Nice small gallery in Glencoe village and look for Yum Yum Burger food truck!

Stayed here for 11 days over new year. Fantastic location and exceptional views of the nearby Aonach Eagach. We did plenty of winter mountaineering and managed several excellent days out from the cottage. Plenty of parking up a private lane and great facilities in the cottage. The cottage is within walking distance of the Clachaig, an excellent establishment to visit. We particularly enjoyed the lack of internet but were able to get weather forecasts from just outside the cottage.

The cottages are set in a stunningly beautiful location with 5 star walks on the doorstep. We received amazing hospitality from our hosts who are keen to share their environment and to ensure that everyone has all they need to enjoy their stay. Super helpful advice all round and everything spotlessly clean.

The view's from every window was stunning. It's a well run clean, warm, home from home, its in heart of the glen, so Highland walking is at your door step.
