Springbank

Photo: D B

Springbank stands in rural Highland countryside with Loch Greshornish visible across the landscape. A detached architect-designed house, it sleeps six across three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The ground floor holds a spacious living room with a 55-inch smart TV and woodburner, plus a kitchen-dining room with a full range cooker, dishwasher and access to a patio. Upstairs are two further bedrooms with ensuite facilities and a separate bathroom.

The property suits those wanting genuine seclusion without complete isolation. A pub and restaurant sit one mile away; Portree, the island's main town with shops and the Fingal Centre (swimming pool, climbing wall, gym), lies 15 minutes' drive off. Dunvegan Castle, the Talisker Distillery, Neist Point Lighthouse and the Skye Museum of Island Life are all day-trip distance. The coast rewards walkers, and MacLeod's Tables can be climbed nearby. A beach lies 13 miles away.

Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are provided, along with logs for the woodburner. A large garden with patio seating and parking for three cars come as standard. The property does not accommodate pets, and smoking is not permitted.

We did the barley to bottle tour and it was a truly amazing experience along with the blending and bottling at the end. Worth ever penny. The staff and tour guides were wonderful and so knowledgeable and friendly.

We did a tour and a tasting with Joyce, who was a lovely guide. Everything here is done so old school, by people, not machines, and with such respect for tradition. It is one of the only distilleries that do their own malting, and it was great to see that up close and personal. The Washback bar was also a great stop - and sitting around an old washback was very fun. Highly recommended.

An amazing distillery experience in Scotland. Finlay, John, Donald, and Ben along with the other fantastic staff at Springbank provide an authentic, fun, and educational whisky experience that is truly unique (Barley to Bottle tour). It was easy to feel the communal sense and devotion to traditional methods which create such a unique whisky. It’s a special place.

I took the Barley to Bottle tour. The guide was incredibly kind and explained the entire process—from barley to whisky—in great detail. I also got to taste some delicious whiskies. It was a very informative and enjoyable experience. The 'make your own whisky' session was a lot of fun, and the base spirits provided were quite impressive.
