Withernsea Beach

This was our very first camping trip and what a trip it was.Hollym Airfield Caravan and Camping Site is an absolute hidden gem along the East Yorkshire coast! If you are looking for a peaceful, spotless, and incredibly unique place to pitch up, this is it. Unbeatable Location: Situated just a stone's throw from Withernsea and the Spurn Point Nature Reserve, it’s an ideal base for coastal walks, bird watching, and exploring local pubs. What a great place to relax with a no-nonsense, friendly and well served location. Easy access to Withernsea town with a short 15-20 walk. Toilets and showers are perfectly adequate and clean. Dog friendly, we brought our German Pointer and Dachshund. The views alone are worth the reasonable price point. We are here as I type this review and if work didn’t get in the way, we’d extend our stay!

This is our first time visiting this site. It's a relatively small site with only around 20 out so pitches. The majority of the site is grass pitches with just a few hard standing. The site caters for caravan, Motorhome and tents. You are pretty much given a free range on what space you use, to a degree. It's a 10amp hook up, with toilets, showers, wash station and even a communal freezer. Fire pits are allowed, but make sure to put them out when you've finished especial of the grass Is dry. You can also hire them from reception, along with barbecues. There is a swing set for children to play on but that's about it. Bins are located by the main entrance. There is a chemical waste and gray water waste but don't think they accommodate passing tourers to empty on site, as the site has a coded barrier on the entrance, which changes every Monday. There is no direct access to the beach but just outside the camp, there is a footpath with a rope and some mud steps down to the beach, so okay if you can walk okay, otherwise I'd recommend going down to Withernsea and getting in the beach there. For those who do have dogs and you can make it down the mud steps, dogs can go on the beach, but wouldn't walk towards Withernsea, as don't know where the stop line is for dogs. The tide comes all the way in, so be sure you allow time to return to the exit. There are plenty of fossils to look out for while on the beach. There is a pub directly opposite the camp, which serves a wide selection of local brews. The pub does not serve food, but due to the proximity of the site in relation to Withernsea, it's only just a short trip out walk. Drones are allowed, but only with authorisation from owners. There is a large Tesco, Aldi and Poundstretcher, within the town and only a couple of minutes drive.

Great campsite. Lots of space between the pitches that have electric. The rest of the site is open to choose your own spot which is a very nice change from the more formal arrangements that usually apply. The site staff were very helpful & friendly. We didn't make use of the on site toilets/showers but could see that they were of a good standard and very well maintained. I have one negative comment and that is about the excessive dog barking from the property across the road. Having said that we will be returning as we enjoyed it so much.
