Cuillin Hills Hotel

This is a clean, well-maintained hotel with incredible views of Portree harbor. The restaurant food and service are outstanding. But at these prices I also expect outstanding service, and this is where Cuillen Hills falls short. Service was more in line with a chain hotel. At no time before or during our stay did anyone tell us, "If we can do anything more for you, please ask." There were none of the little touches we experienced at other hotels during our 2-week Scotland holiday, such as complementary coffee/tea/water/biscuits in the lobby and blankets to cuddle in the chairs outside. A couple of months before our visit, I emailed the hotel asking for help organizing taxis between the mainland and Portree plus a private tour. I also asked for advice on a laundry service. The response was a list of taxi and tour companies with an explanation that, because they ask for a credit card deposit, the hotel couldn't make a reservation for us. The company we chose did not require any deposit. We received no response to our request for advice on laundry service. When we checked in, I had to ask for the promised laundry bag. The next day I had to ask at Reception if our laundry had been delivered. The restaurant dinner menu is what I'd call a special occasion menu. The bar had a "grazing menu" of snacks, but apparently it wasn't possible to get something like a sandwich and bowl of soup if we wanted a light dinner and didn't want to walk into town. Speaking of walking into town...the walk took us seniors about 20 minutes. It has considerable hills and some steps. Much of the walk is on a narrow roadway where you have to watch for oncoming vehicles. After making this trek once, we decided we'd feel safer in a taxi. Reception told us they could book us a taxi into town, but we'd need to speak to the driver or the restaurant about booking a return trip. When we asked for help making a dinner reservation at Antlers (a restaurant in town), Reception also told us they don't take reservations. It turned out they do, and they were fully booked. Don't get me wrong--it's a nice hotel, with fabulous food and restaurant service and one of the best views anywhere in the world. But the hotel service was very disappointing given the price point, and we won't be returning.

Lovely hotel with a great lounge and lawn. The location was beautiful, and staff were super kind and helpful. The only drawback for me is the price point given the quality of the rooms. They were perfectly fine, just a bit dated. Also, breakfast was very good, but dinner was only “just ok” and definitely not worth the cost.

Fantastic boutique hotel a few minutes away from Portree town centre. Fay was extremely helpful with our booking and was very welcoming when we arrived. The hotel is very nice and cozy with a warm fire place in the lounge and plenty of quiet and comfortable sitting areas. Kyle at the bar was very friendly and gave us some great whisky and wine recommendations! Alex greeted us during dinner and breakfast and she was very attentive to us. Food was delicious and they bake the bread in-house. Unfortunately we did not catch the names of the rest of the staff but they were all really nice and very professional – we received plenty of recommendations from them as well. We look forward to coming back next time we are in Skye!

Our stay at Cuillin Hills Hotel was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the level of service stood out — the staff are incredibly attentive, warm, and genuinely friendly, making you feel welcome and well cared for throughout your stay. The dining experience was another highlight. Both breakfast and dinner were outstanding, with a great selection of delicious, high-quality dishes that exceeded expectations. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and very well maintained, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment to unwind. Overall, everything about our stay was superb, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Skye!
