About Marmalade Hotel

Marmalade occupies a Georgian villa and a modern extension set into a hillside above Portree, five minutes' walk from the town centre but far enough from it to feel calm. Mature gardens surround the building and most rooms look out across the coast towards the Cuillin.

There are 34 bedrooms, including Premier rooms with the best of the views, fitted out with a level of kit unusual for the island — Bose sound systems, Nespresso machines and Highland Soap toiletries. Public spaces mix contemporary design with the things that actually matter in a Skye winter: log fires, deep sofas and saunas. The Chargrill restaurant makes seafood its focus, with seasonal menus that change as the boats come in, and the terrace is used whenever the weather allows.

The hotel is run by Perle Hotels, which also owns The Bosville down in the town, and guests can move between the two for meals and drinks. For visitors who want a design-led base with Portree's shops, harbour and restaurants on foot, but a garden and a view to come back to, it is one of the strongest mid-range options on Skye. Parking is on site, which is worth a great deal in Portree in August.

Our room was truly amazing! It’s roomy and very clean. I was surprised to see how large and modern style. The bathroom was a true dream. I highly suggest eating breakfast and dinner in their restaurant. The food was delicious and staff was friendly. Our lovely waitress was eager to share travel suggestions, which made our trip more delightful.

Did not have a great experience here. Given the luxury price point I thought for sure it would be nice.... but the Marmalade Hotel was disappointing. The room had worn out and damaged furniture. There were zero windows in the room.... the only light was from a single skylight.... the more expensive rooms in the back have better windows. The shower would have been nice, but it had significant mold in it.... felt disgusting. The breakfast was nice.... except that you would expect they are serving the world's finest Marmalade.... but in reality it is the same low quality marmalade that budget hotels serve in a tiny jar. Finally, I discovered a fraudulent room charge on my bill when I returned home that the hotel is refusing to credit back to me. Portree is a great city, but I would avoid this property.... disappointing experience overall.

Excellent hotel stay for our family of three. Comfy beds, spacious rooms and nice big bathroom. Just down the street from the square. The best part was the food- delicious breakfast and we stayed up eat night at the bar eating cheese plates. Thank you for making it such a wonderful stay!

I stayed for 2 nights for my birthday. The hotel is only 5 mins walk to restaurants at Portree. The Room was lovely and spotless! My only disappointment was that the view was of the car park😪.The staff were all very friendly! I'd like to especially compliment Mila and Polina on their exceptional Customer Service skills. On the morning of my birthday, l was pleasantly surprised to find a small card and gift placed outside my room. That little touch, made me feel special. I'd definitely go back to this hotel.
