Cooks Castle Farm - The Farriers

Isle of Wight

The Farriers sits on a working farm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with something rare: direct access onto the old railway line that forms part of the Red Squirrel Trail, a 32-mile route through the island's countryside. Walkers and cyclists can step straight onto miles of bridleways and footpaths without needing a car. Ventnor's coastal attractions are within reach too, along with the usual Isle of Wight draws—beaches, villages, cycling routes—all close enough to explore.

The cottage itself is a converted farm building with everything on the ground floor. You get a combined living, dining and kitchen space with French doors opening onto a garden that overlooks the farm fields. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob and dishwasher. There are two bedrooms—one with a kingsize bed, one with a single—and a shower room with a walk-in shower. Bed linen, towels and wifi are included; heating and electricity are covered. Private parking for one car is on site, and if you're running an electric vehicle, there's a charging point available at cost.

The cottage sleeps three and is yours alone. One dog can stay free. No smoking inside. Check-in is after 15:30 and checkout before 09:00.

A really nice place to stay. Located in Wroxall, it’s pretty close to Shanklin and Ventnor. You’re on a working farm, so horses are about, which was nice to see. The property has been done up to a high spec. Plenty of room in the bedrooms, and having a downstairs toilet was an added bonus. The kitchen had a dishwasher for use, which was good, and the oven worked well for the one night we grabbed a pizza and cooked. The farm has its own access to the cycle path, which was easy to follow and was a nice walk. The only downside was the property needed a bit more of a deep clean. Quite a few spider webs were in the property when we arrived, and flies were a problem. Even the fly spray didn’t really work. On the flip side, when we did have a problem with the shower, it was fixed quickly, which was good. There’s parking on site and easily by the property, so that’s good. Overall, the stay was really nice, had everything we needed it for, just need a bit of a deeper clean.
