Shanklin's quieter edges offer a retreat from the busier seafront, yet Pirates Cove and Jurassic Bay Adventure Golf sit within easy reach. The Hideaway occupies this middle ground—a single-bedroom apartment designed for couples or solo travellers who want privacy without isolation. Everything is on the ground floor: open-plan living and dining flow into a well-appointed kitchen with an electric oven, induction hob, air fryer and coffee machine. The bedroom contains a kingsize bed; the ensuite has a shower cubicle, and there's a separate toilet. A front garden with seating provides outdoor space.
Essentials are covered: electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, along with heating. The place is whole to yourself, and one well-behaved pet can stay at no extra charge. You'll need to arrange parking for one car and observe a no-smoking policy indoors. Check-in is after 16:00 and checkout before 10:00.

What guests say
We visited The Hideaway after booking a couple months in advance for a special meal and requesting a sea-view table. Unfortunately, we had no correspondence back confirming whether this would be possible, and when we arrived we were seated next to the bar, where staff were regularly passing through to the kitchen area, which made the table feel quite in the way. When we asked about the sea-view table, we were told those tables are reserved for people who request them in advance. I explained that I had done this when booking, but they said there were no notes on the booking and that the owner’s laptop was at home, so they couldn’t check the original message. I understand requests can’t always be guaranteed, but some communication beforehand would have avoided the disappointment. Even a quick message to say the sea-view table wasn’t available would have been completely fine. To be fair, the waitress we spoke to was lovely and did move us to another table, which we appreciated. The food also came out quickly and the service was friendly. However, my chicken burger and chips were overcooked and unfortunately not very enjoyable. It’s a shame, as the setting has a lot of potential and we were really looking forward to it. The main disappointment was the lack of communication around the booking and the fact that no real fault or responsibility seemed to be taken when we raised it.

What a little gem! The Hideaway is a lovely, quirky restaurant with great views. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious and very well priced. I wish we’d known about his place earlier, we would have definitely visited again during our holiday.

Found this hidden gem off the back of an awful start to a holiday in Isle of Wight and the owners could not of been more accomadating when we asked to book in to hopefuly end our holiday on a high. Wow what a great experience the hideaway is, the food was so good, the belly of pork and home made chicken pie where beyond our expectations and again the service was personal, friendly and genuine. Highly recommend this restaurant even if its just for a drink but you will never regret the belly of pork. This is a must on the isle of wight experience. 5 start easily.
