The Tap Room

Isle of Wight

View on Google Maps

The Tap Room is a three-bedroom house built into Golden Hill Fort, a historic moated fortification near Yarmouth. The property sleeps six across an unusual upside-down layout: bedrooms occupy the ground floor, while living spaces are on the first floor. One bedroom has a king bed and its own shower room; the second has a double bed; the third has two single beds. There is a second bathroom with a bath and shower. Bed linen, towels, electricity and Wi-Fi are included.

The first floor opens into one continuous living area with kitchen, dining and sitting space. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking—oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, wine cooler and all the basics. Bedrooms, bathrooms and the kitchen all have heated towel rails. French doors from the sitting room lead onto a three-sided balcony with seating and views over the fort's interior. Private parking for two cars is provided; smoking is not permitted inside.

This works well for families wanting a self-contained base within a distinctive historical setting. Golden Hill Fort Country Park surrounds the property, and Yarmouth is nearby on the coast. Children need supervising on the roof terrace at all times.
