About The Capon Tree Town House

The Capon Tree Town House built its reputation on the plate before the pillow, and its restaurant remains the heart of the place. The menu is varied enough to suit different tastes, with a three-course deal that regulars return for, and the kitchen's cooking is consistently well made rather than fussy. Prices are fair for what arrives at the table, and the bar offers a relaxed spot for a drink before or after eating, with breakfast also served on site.

The rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and the option of drinks brought up, with family rooms available for those travelling with children and a bridal suite for wedding parties, since the hotel also hosts weddings. Free WiFi, 24 hour reception and childcare are all on hand, and staff are known for a warm welcome that makes the whole place feel comfortable and easy to settle into.

Set on Jedburgh's High Street in the Scottish Borders, the hotel has pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach, along with a nearby golf course for those wanting a round during their stay. Free on-site parking and pet-friendly rooms make it a straightforward base for exploring the town and surrounding area.

This restaurant has good service, ambience and is well priced. However carefully consider before eating here if you have a food ALLERGY. I was assured when booking that they had no problem in providing gluten-free options. I was also told with absolute certainty when ordering which options were gluten-free, sadly this was false and I was very unwell. As a coeliac of 20 years, I know that mistakes happen and normally when this occurs the restaurant is mortified, admits their error and is keen to ensure it doesn’t happen again. In this instance, the manager blamed their supplier and took no responsibility for the mistake. I have since found the dish on a catering supplier website and it is clearly marked as containing wheat. The manager stated that he’d thrown all the packaging away so wasn’t able to check. I personally would never eat here again because the response was defensive not one where lessons were learnt.

Stayed at the Capon House on the first night of walking the Borders Abbeys Way. Lovely room, we ate in the bar restaurant as well as they have a fantastic 3 course meal deal. We then enjoyed some drinks at the laid back vibe of the bar. Dog friendly too 😊 Would ideally have preferred continental breakfast in dining area rather than in the room but can understand the thinking. Would definitely return.

Parking was a little limited on street, but it was very early December 2025, just before the ramp up to Christmas parties etc. I'm sure there would have been other options around. The restaurant was lovely and great value. Had a couple of drinks later that evening with the owner and staff, they were lovely and the service was brilliant. The rooms were very nicely kept and provided everything I needed for my work stay. The location was perfect for the workplace I was visiting 5 mins down the road. Jedburgh is clearly a lovely tourist trap too at the right time of year. Definitely recommend staying here. Only down side for me was that it was a continental breakfast only, however, I can't blame them as I was the only guest and it was a lovely continental, just personal preference. Would stay again.
