About Church Lane Campsite

Time for a slice of the simple life? Church Lane Campsite offers a peaceful Lake District retreat where green fields stretch as far as the eye can see and the focus stays firmly on the essentials. Clean showers and toilets serve non-electric grass pitches sheltered by trees, while a well-stocked farm shop provides local produce and friendly staff are on hand with guidance for exploring the surrounding fells and lakes.

The back-to-basics setup suits adventurous types and serenity-seekers perfectly, though you're hardly marooned – Kendal's cultural attractions are a 10-minute drive, Windermere the same distance in the other direction, and the village of Crook sits just a mile away with its local pub. A visiting pizza chef fires up hand-stretched creations on Friday and Saturday evenings mid-June through August, adding a summery touch to what remains a wonderfully remote-feeling spot. The trade-off for all that tranquillity? No dogs allowed, so four-legged friends will need to sit this one out.

What visitors say

Bethany Simmonds

This campsite is nestled in the Cumbrian mountains, very near Skarfel Pike and Waswater lake, both the highest and deepest of their kinds in England. The campsite is well organised with clean and well maintained facilities. Staff are very friendly and helpful, even lent me some tick tweezers. The price for camping was very reasonable with a car £16 per night. Even though the weather was wet, exploring the surrounding areas was so enjoyable and the campsite made that possible for someone on a budget. Would definitely recommend.

This is a truly lovely campsite in a wonderful location and overall we had a good time. When we arrived it was fairly quiet, but at the weekend it was packed. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves. The only negatives were the showers felt noticeably cooler at the weekend and at one point someone decided to wash all their dirty dishes in the Ladies washroom because the sinks outside were busy.

A lovely site, we stayed in a dog friendly caravan which more than exceeded our expectations; perfectly clean on arrival and we even managed to check in 3 hours early. The location couldn’t be better for short walks to local pubs with brilliant food, a lovely cafe/brunch spot The Sawmill nearby and walking distance to amazing swimming spots. The staff were very helpful and kind, the shop was fully equipped ( a bit steep in prices but expected on a campsite ). Also a 15 minute drive to the beach for a change of scenery. Highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking & we can’t wait to find time to come back!

Perfect place to camp in the Lake District, 15 mins drive from Scafell Pike and surrounded by other local walks and peaks to explore too. Very accomidating staff, more than happy to talk with you, give pointers and information of the area We came the same day (Bank Holiday) Saturday, pitches availible at an amazing price. Facilities where all you could need; toilets/showers, washing up station, laundry room, bbqs and fire pits availible and the farm shop has EVERYTHING you need, whatever you forgot to pack… and the farm food is just amazing
