I was actively corresponding with the hotel staff when organising a work weekend trip involving almost 30 people. The communication was great, they were very accommodating and helpful, made a lot of aspects of planning this weekend very easy and manageable. The rooms were beautiful and everyone was very happy with the food (we got to try breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel). One staff member serving the restaurant was repeatedly rude to multiple people from our group with no apparent reason. It created a lot of awkwardness and overall affected our enjoyment of the meals. For example, my colleague with an allergy was accidentally served the wrong order during breakfast and I approached this member of staff asking whether she would be able to assist us or if I'd better look for someone else (as I could see that she was busy arranging cutlery on the tables). She looked at me angrily and said, "What do you need help with?!" When I explained, she aggressively threw the remaining cutlery from her hands on the table with a loud bang, and stomped in the direction where my colleagues were sitting. Another example would be when we arrived for lunch on day 2 of our stay and I awkwardly stood at the entrance to the restaurant area waiting to be told which tables we should occupy. She just stood there staring at me from the distance, I approached her myself and asked, "Would you like us to sit where we were last evening?" And she just said, "If you wouldn't mind" in the most aggressive manner. I could only respond, "We don't mind, thank you very much" and walk away. During dinner itself she approached me from the back, where I could not have seen her, with my order and basically yelled at me, "MOVE THE NAPKIN" so I had to move the napkin in front of me with a speed of light, afraid of someone punishment to follow. One of the biggest disappointment's was the policy about dogs. We were told that the dogs are allowed to stay at the hotel so two of my colleagues brought their little dogs with them. However, during the stay it turned out that our colleagues were not allowed to sit with us in the lounge area and, what is even worse, they were not allowed to have lunch with us at the restaurant. Instead, they were served at a tiny coffee table right next to the reception area. This is simply unacceptable and humiliating for everyone involved. This kind of policy should have been communicated well in advance so we could consider alternative options. Overall, people were very happy with the rooms but were quite disappointed in the way the hotel was managed, and with attitude of some of the staff members. To finish on a positive note, I would like to say thank you once again to Shynese and Stefan! You were so great (and what a shame that we did not get to meet Stefan in person!). I would also like to thank the young lady who was serving us during dinner and lunch, unfortunately, I do not know her name. She was very friendly and made everyone feel more comfortable.

The very best of an English Country house hotel. Set in an quiet idyllic location surrounded by the hills of the Lake District and offering easy access to fabulous walks of all standards and for all ages. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was 1st rate. It would be very difficult not to blow the diet here. Ever meal we had over a 3 night stay was excellent. This is not a cheap stay but we think it was worth every penny and will certainly be back. It was interesting talking to other guest how many were returning visits, some for many years. A true testament as to how good the Borrowdale Gate hotel is. Do not get this hotel confused with another hotel of a very similar name near by. Recommended.

Hotel has been recently done up and the Rooms felt fresh. The staff was super helpful ensuring we were checked in okay and breakfast was delicious a wide range of pastries as well as full cooked options. Beautiful view over the gardens and plenty of parking. We stayed for one night but could easily have stayed more!

Lovely stay and well priced. The servers & receptionists were absolutely lovely. However, I’ve deducted one star because I find it unreasonable that a hotel marketed as dog-friendly doesn’t allow dogs in its own restaurant. It made the stay considerably less convenient than it needed to be.
