What visitors say
Review by Toby the Historian Hound Greetings, fellow wanderers. Sir Toby Fluffington III here — lakeside naturalist, duck diplomat, and aspiring sailor. My latest outing took me to a delightful country park, a place I visit from time to time for a proper constitutional around the reservoir. The walk around the water is always a pleasant affair. The paths are tidy, the scenery respectable, and the general atmosphere perfect for a dog of culture to stretch his legs while conducting a few routine sniff inspections. It is the sort of place that feels calm and orderly, which I appreciate greatly when undertaking important historical and environmental observations. During this visit I encountered several ducks, who seemed quite comfortable ruling the reservoir. I greeted them politely, as one does. More surprising, however, was my first encounter with a swan. At first glance I believed it to be a rather large chicken that had somehow wandered into a lake-based career. Upon closer inspection it became clear this was no chicken at all, but a very elegant and slightly intimidating water bird. Partway around the reservoir I observed a man fishing from a small boat. I studied the situation carefully. The boat drifted calmly across the water while he cast his line with great seriousness. This sparked an idea. If humans can take boats out on the reservoir, there seems no reason a capable and determined dog could not do the same. I have therefore decided that on a future visit I shall rent a boat and attempt some maritime activities of my own. Naturally, no visit would be complete without the possibility of a café stop. If I am a very good boy — which I consistently am — there may be a small snack involved. This adds a strong motivational element to the entire expedition. In conclusion: a fine country park, an excellent reservoir circuit, respectable wildlife, and promising opportunities for future nautical adventures. Yours curiously, Sir Toby Fluffington III Reservoir Explorer, Swan Analyst, Future Captain of Small Boats

A fantastic day out with a youth group. The group enjoyed a variety of activities over two morning sessions and one in the afternoon. Facilities were great and well maintained and staff were excellent. Lots going on but all well organised. Sun was shining and a great day was had by all.

Monikie Country Park is only a 14‑minute drive from the nearest large Sainsbury’s store. It also offers easy access to Carnoustie, Arbroath and Forfar. The park itself is quite spacious and features two reservoirs. On colder days, it’s worth dressing warmly, as it can get breezy. The area is fairly popular and often visited by both locals and tourists. The park is also filled with trees, which add extra charm and create a pleasant atmosphere.

Beautiful day when we visited. Plenty wild life to see and people with their fishing rods in boats on the water. Plenty wastebins around the park and reservoir. Nice restaurant but it doesn't open until 12 md.
